noise from rear strut?

noise from rear strut?

Postby sahuddleston » Wed Nov 29, 2006 12:28 am

i asked some of you individually, but im having some trouble with my current set up. i have gen2 wheels with 15mm spacers and the stock 215-55s on the car. i hear a noise coming from the rear, but there appears to be no rubbing on the outside of the tire. i think the tires are hitting my struts. i have been told to get my fenders rolled or to get different size tires. most of you know more about rims and fitment than i do. im looking at getting 225 45s, and im hoping that will fix the problem. does anyone have experience with this? any help is appreciated guys. i want to get the problem fixed but dont want to waste money on something i dont need.

with 215/55's i believe that the tall tire is flexing and rubbing against the struts. It could also be fender rub. With higher profile tires, I know its more bubbled out and flexes more which make it rub when hard cornering or over speedbumps, etc

You sure its not your sway bar making the sound.. Mine is starting to squeak and it sounds like my tires rubbing against the struts... Check that first...

i would have rolled my fenders if i saw any mark on the outside of the tires. this leads me to believe that it has more to do with the strut and the tire rubbing. RSB is ok btw, so i guess the 225-45s will be my next attempt at making this go away unless someone else has a better idea
