Nitrous Oxide

Note what has been said about automatic transmissions. Your transmission software does not know about your N2O setup, and when it begins to approach redline it will shift, allowing all of the power your motor and the additional power generated by the nitrous to be run through your torque converter (since you don't have a clutch). I have on more than one occasion seen a weak honda torque converter get its goose cooked (although honestly, it's more often a problem of burned valves with the "gas").

50 horsepower is 50 horsepower. The engine is not really gonna care where or how it gets it. The supercharger forces more air and fuel into the engine raising the cylinder pressure and the stress on the radio. Nitrous allows you to add more fuel to burn with the oxygen that gets released when the nitrous is burned with the fuel. Like said before most engine problems due to nitrous are from poor installation. A small 40 to 50 horsepower shot with rpm activated switch to shut off the solenoid towards redline would probably work well and be very reliable. Hell I have sprayed many pounds of nitrous thru my motorycle at 40 horsepower and have had nary a problem. Just like anything it just needs to be used in moderation

When N2O is heated to high temperatures (around 300 degrees celcius) it breaks the nitrogen and oxygen bonds. Oxygen is released into the engine, making more of it available. Also even though it takes a lot of heat (activation energy) to make this reaction take place, it has an overall cooling effect of the air molecules. When air is cooled it can become more dense thus making it possible to suck more air through the intake. This leads to more combustion and thus more power.

Because of all of these reasons stated above, N2O can cause your engine to run lean and thus detonate

And when you do so, it only wreaks havok to your 2 sets of knock sensors which are about $200 for each.

Well sure it can. That is why you have to add more fuel when you use nitrous oxide. Duh... That is a given...

If it was that simple...then why don't you do it? It's obvious you haven't messed with the fuel system on our cars. You have the slightest idea.

Oh I think I have an idea about nitrous. I think you guys are the one that dont because you haven't tried. Nitrous is simple. There is no magic to it. Everyone is sooooo paranoid about nitrous because they hear the horror stories. Most of the problems stem from people getting overzealous with the amount of nitrous they spray and not taking precautions with air/fuel ratio. A fuel injected car is a fuel injected car. The pretty much all work on the same principle. Like I said before the trick to nitrous is not to get to wild with how much your spraying, watch the air/fuel ratio, maybe taking a little ignition timing out and have some safety interlocks like a rpm activated switch and a fuel pressure cut off switch. I spray 40 horsepower on a fuel injected motorcycle engine for goodness sake and I haven't had any problems. Thats 40 horse on top of the 174 it makes to the rear wheel.

Oh btw the the reason I dont do it to my car. I bought my car because I have always driven Toyotas and I wanted something with a V6 to pull my motocycle. If I want to go fast I ride the motorycle. I didn't buy my car to make it a hot rod. Thats what my bike is for.

This board is uptight..

Hmmm if you only knew this platform well...which you obviously don't. Why advocate something you wouldn't do to your own car? Hypocritical I think. It's not uptight...it's called, we know what is possible and what can be done. I'm talking from platform experience...not because you used it on your bike.

I may not know all the intricasies of the V6 engine but I know enough that nitrous if properly used is not gonna hurt an engine. Even the 1MZFE. What does hurt engines is people trying to spray a lot of nitrous without taking the proper precautions. I am not being hypocritical in not wanting to put nitrous on MY car. I didn't buy my car to make it a hot rod. That is what my motorcycle is for. But if someone else wants to do then great. I am just trying to make people realize that nitrous is not the automatic death sentence for an engine that some people on this board portray it as. Have any of you actually used nitrous on the Solara? U speak of platform experience, what platform experience do any of you have with nitrous on the Solara?? If the 1MZ can take an extra 50 or 60 ponies with the S/C then it sure could take the gain from nitrous. Again one just has to be sensible and use precautions when using nitrous.

All I hear on this board is how you shouldn't do this or shouldnt do that or the engine wont take this or wont take that. Hell if its that big of POS then I suggest you sell and buy something with a stronger engine..

And yes this board is uptight. All I see is moderators closing threads and chastising people if they get the least bit off topic. I am simply stating my opinion which I thought I was free to do on this board. Yet peoples responses are less than pleasant and friendly.

I am done with this thread.

im a guest, just a guest, and i live in georgia. i have a '00 solara with nos. to me, its less damaging then a charger. (if installed correctly). why?? how?? a charger is putting boost in the engine at all times. whenever you step on the gas, and that puts wear on the engine......nos is only when you press the button, once or twice a week. i will not buy a supercharger cause they are way over rated and priced. my solara is extremly fast and will take a supercharged one any day of the week.

i'm hating your opinion!
youre comparing a supercharger which is boosting all the time, to your NOS which you push the button twice a week for kicks?

now to explain in yellow faces:

im not saying once you put a sc in your car, its gona blow up. boosting all the time eventually puts wear on your engine. boosting on weekends is easier then all the time. im not hating on sc's but how many of you sc drivers have out screamed a wrx by 3 car links. how does this club get people to be a member if thier not open to new ideas, and want to hate on different mods. im subject to new ideas cause that is how you really find out about your car. nos is not a bad thing!!!! if it was, then they would have left it in the denist office.

peace

My S/C provides more ponies and torque than your 50 shot of NOS. It is there whenever I need it and doesn't void my warranty. 'Nuff said.
