2.75 pulley

2.75 pulley

Postby krook » Sat Apr 19, 2003 7:12 pm

i just got my 2.75 pulley in yesterday, and i can't wait to install it on my s/c.....

how do i do that? the s/c is NOT on my car as of yet, but i figured it would be easier to swap the pulleys if it wasn't on the car. steve told me something about a craftsman tool used for the pulley swap, but the link he gave me expired. so i don't know what the tool looks like.

can anyone help? TIA

Any puller should work. It'll have jaws that extend down from the body of the puller to grab the pulley and a jacking screw in the center of the puller that pushes against the S/C shaft to remove it. Pretty simple stuff.

you can rent them for free at autozone or places like that. If not it would be like $50 to buy

I'm with Yanks on this one. A pulling set like that is something you'll hardly ever use, unless you are seriously into DIY. Just about all bigger auto parts stores have a tool lending program. You just give them a deposit it and they'll refund it upon returning the tool.

It's not that hard. Steve did it w/o those tools.
Took less than 5 minutes to swap the pulley.

Steve, care 2 share?

Sure there are other ways to remove a pulley, but to avoid damage to the seal, bearings/bushings, or shaft of the S/C, a puller is the best way to go. And, once again, it's free!

Yea agreed. You don't wanna damage the stock pulley because if you ever have warranty trouble you can just swap it back on

First things first, your going to have to get your air bag disabled and removed. From there you'll need a steering wheel puller which is a different tool all together. I'm not sure about the Solara, but some vehicles actually require a specific specialty tool to remove the steering wheel (some GM's anyways). You can, however, get a steering wheel puller under the same lending program as previously discussed.

a lot of newer cars don't require a steering wheel puller. after you disable the airbag and get it removed, u remove a nut holding down the wheel and pull. but u have to be careful not to damage the clockspring........

.....on the other hand, if you are asking all these questions, perhaps you should find someone else to do the swapping for you. it may be cheaper in the long run.

To change the steering wheel in Solara, you don't need a puller.

Just removed the bolts, and take it out.
(And dont forget to 1st disconnect the batt!)
