Supercharger & Additional Parts

Supercharger & Additional Parts

Postby mannella » Tue Apr 22, 2003 2:33 pm

I'm sorry if this question has already come up, but, I was wondering:

If I buy just a supercharger alone, would I be able to install it by itself, or are additional parts required in order for it to work?

Thanks!

if you are mechanically minded, you should have no problem. the S/C comes in a box with everything. no addt'l parts are needed. except for tools

The SC is come w/ the kit that includes bolts, belt, pulley, hoses, zip ties, EBC, EGR pipe, one-way valve, belt tensioner (for newer SC), etc.

U need all of those to work properly.
Also, u probably need the instruction manual.

If you do plan to do it yourself make sure that you have a friend there to help you. I have never done the install myself, but i've talked to a few people who have and having a second person really saved time.

It shouldn't be that hard, just give it 8-12 hours and go slowly

And if you have an automatic version, you will not get boost in first with the EBC properly installed regardless of what some people say. Unless they can prove it with actual boost readings (which these same people have not yet done so), you are not supposed to get boost in first even though you hear it wind up.

Explain to me how this is relavent to his post about installing a supercharger? I don't get why you would go looking for a fight like this. You can think what you'd like but I know what I feel, and there is boost in first. We've gone over this many times. Infact I will be ordering a boost gauge soon so I'll be sure to post pics when it registers boost in 1st gear and if you'd like I could take a picture of my PROPERLY wired EBC.

Back on topic.....Before you install the SC you might also want to address a few things such as upgrading to denso iridium IK22 plugs and possibly changing the wires to magnecor KV-85 wires, especially if you plan to raise the boost

With a properly installed EBC and vacuum hoses, you should NOT get boost in 1st gear on the automatic tranny version of the SC. If you are getting boost in 1st, then the hoses and EBC were installed following the manual transmission instructions. *shrug* I don't know why this is a hot topic, but that's the way TRD spec'd the thing to work. If you want boost in 1st, of course there are ways to acheive it, but bottom line is that it's not supposed to have boost in 1st due to warranty and wear issues that they discovered early on during R&D.

Also to add Steve has done probably the most S/C installs in this community as well as installed Arief's at his home in Texas.

If you say so.......

I have contacted TRD and no one knew what I was talking about. If you could direct me to someone who I should contact to confirm this that would be greatly appreciated. My SC was installed by an authorized TRD dealer. BTW No where in the install book does it mention the lack of boost. They would have put something like that in the FAQ section because I'm sure many people would be wondering why the hell there is no boost if they just paid $3000.

Contact either Earl Mangune, Chris Quintana or Mike Urbano.

The latter 2 do not work for TRD USA anymore. Last I heard Earl left too but not too sure.

(for Auto Trannys) is it possible to read boost on the gauge, but being cut out by the bypass valve? actually what does the bypass valve do anyway?

and xXsolaraXx, where do you live elevationwise to get 4lbs in first gear?

Lol! The never ending argument.

I have boost in 1st becoz I hooked up EBC as manual.
I have never tried the EBC auto setup so I don't know.
I have TRD boost gauge so I'll let u'all know when I got it installed.
So far the tranny is doing good.

TRDMole177,
xXsolaraXx lives in Grapevine, TX.
He is using a stock pulley but 6.2 psi is on the way. :D
