Selling brother's car, pics ok?

Hey everyone, we're finally selling my brother's old Saturn SC2. I need some help with the pics I took, so any advice would be appreciated. Better lighting, angels, ect. would help a lot (if needed).

Always try take pics right before sundown.

Pics of the odometer.

And have a walk around the car, really look at it, and figure out which angle you think looks best. The angle that says "I'll buy that car". And put that up as the main/first picture.

Maybe from the front side angle, like this, Image

Thanks for the pointers. As for the "I'll buy the car" pic, I liked the second one the most. The only problem is I don't want to buy the car, I want to sell it so I can't tell what pic says it best lol! :P

Background is pretty but maybe it's not what you want for a sale. When you post up a car for sale, I avoid showing my house in the background or making it look like I have lots of money. It makes it hard to negotiate on the price if they think you can afford to go low.

Instead pick a neutral spot. For a dark car like this, pick a contrasting background. Make sure the light is low and behind you. (Sunset is best.)

Usually a 3/4 angle is best. If you want a sporty look, shoot the angle low to make the car look low. Try moving the camera around to find the sweet shot like Latin mentioned.

Wow, they haven't made that model for a while, and it looks really clean. Looks well cared for, so that should help a lot. You should try for a target audience. That car isn't going to appeal to anyone looking for horsepower or an up-to-date sporty look, but it would appeal to someone looking for thie first car, or a college student who is going away for the first time. Keep this in mind when you decide where to market it (i.e.: flyers, ads, etc...)

Sell what's best on the car. Someone mentioned the ODO. If the miles are low, or at least low for the age, that will get someone looking. The interior is really clean, so that will help sell it too. Phreaked has some great suggestions on the pics.

i agree with above posts, the backgroud is taking too much attention away from the car.

I don't care how good the car look in the picture or how good the background looks, that does not change the fact that the car is a total piece of C-R-A-P.

Hey drak, carry your shlock-shlock somewhere else. I've seen a SC2 run a 9.8 1/4 mile with some nice ups. I will not even bash with you on its safety, seeing how it has saved 2 of my family member's lives.

Anyways, back to the pictures! So you all think I should take some more casual background pics (garage driveway, parking lot, ect?) to keep the focus on the car instead? As for miles, it has almost 90k so that's no big whoop.

I owned two great Saturns. A car is what you make it, and what you need from it. I'm sure some may say the same of your car.

Thanks for the support MCO, but I'm not looking to start a flame war. A car IS what you make it, and that's why we've had 3 of the same car go through our family. Of course two were sacrificed so that my brother and sister can still be here today but now we have a third that's ready to get a new family :). Time to save someone else's life!

No prob...

What year is it? I really think that fact that it's really clean will help you.

Do you have a Carmax near you? I so, they give free estimates for what they will purchase your car for. You could take it there just for the hell of it, see what they say.

You'd know where to price it then, as they will undercut you so they can sell it for a profit. You price it a little bit higher. You'll also get an idea if there is a market for it in your area. Hell, you never know, they might even offer you close to what you are looking for, an you can be done quickly...with no pics

How do I tell where the nearest carmax is? I've never heard of it in my life. Thanks for that tip though, kind of like the dealership idea, but they always rip you off. KBB is where I go for rough estimates :).

It's an '02 btw, last year it was made.

I just looked online, no Carmax in AZ. CA and NM, but from the map, Meas looks to be smack dab in the middle of AZ, so prob too far.

Carmax is like going to the dealership, but they actualy buy and sell used cars, rather than take trades towards the purchase of a new car. I went onece with a friend trying to find out how much she could get for her Celica. It was pretty painless...they look at and drive the car, tell you how much they will buy it from you for, and you decide.

Of course, they want to make money, so they would go low, but you know that, and it would just give you an idea of what the car is really worth. KBB is good, but the local dealer will really know your market, IMO.

Perhaps there is a place like Carmax near you...there used to be another one here calle AutoNation...same principle, then they started to buy actual dealerships, then disappeared! :D
