My New Ride

Postby that1mexguy » Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:47 am

As some of you may know I had been looking for a truck. Yesterday I went to a Toyota dealership and finally found one that I liked, for the price I was looking for.

It's a 2006 Tundra SR5. For a truck this big I would've prefered a V8 but after test driving the V6 it actually felt strong enough. I will not be towing anything big and this will be mainly used for my wheels business so no immediate mods. I will personalize it, but no major modifications in mind. After some negotiating and after adding all the BS charges it came to $21K total to include floor mats and bed liner. So what do you guys think (and yes, it's dirty already lol)

Dood! You know you can NEVER go wrong with a TUNDRA in my book!! :D

You are absolutely going to LOVE it! That V6 is MORE than enough power for that truck, as long as you're not looking to tow big things with it! ;)

Nice truck man. I always loved tundras. Whats the specs on the v6 thats in them? I know the v8 was pretty underpowered (as far as v8s go) which is probably why a v6 doesnt feel so far off. Good truck for a few little upgrades too.

I wish more autos came with those "suicide" rear doors.

They are a Love/Hate item... I used to love them about 80% of the time because you could pack HUGE items inside and still close the doors. It also came in handy when you were on a long trip and needed to "stop by the side of the road" and still get privacy both directions! :D

The only "Hate" moments were when you were in a parking lot next to another car and had to try to get passengers in/out of the back, or try to empty your grocery cart (think about it a moment). Somebody was always boxed in! :o

Tundra is probably the best truck on the market today... (aside from fifth-wheeling or draggin' grain bins waggin' along behind ya at 15 mph in rural Ohio and Indiana during harvest.... and the trucks that are good at that, are specified to be IN SPEC. if they burn within 1.5 QUART of oil/1,000 miles.... BRAND NEW! :o --> well, either those, or the OTHER one's fry their tranny pulling out of their own driveway sometime between 3 and 73,000 miles from purchase. 8) )

GOOD CHOICE!

I have LOVED ALL THREE of my Toyota Trucks, and STILL HAVE my last one. ('94 P/U 4x4 w/underpowered V6 and every mod I could find...)

If you don't already know about these guys, you need to. (Jeff, do you concur?)

Congrats on the Tundra. It's a nice truck. Go for the TRD exhaust on the V6. It sounds pretty deep and tough. I don't think they list the V6 directly but it should fit fine. The OE muffler and tailpipes are the same for V8 and V6.

Now is a good time to buy. Production has started on the next gen Tundra so the olds have to go.

My RX-8 has the two rear suicide doors and I love them. The car appears to be a two door but is actually a four door. (sort of) At 6'4" I actually fit in the rear. (With someone 5'5" or less in front.)

That's INTERESTING.... I read an article that pretty much MAULED the RX-8 for those scissors doors... although the overall review was VERY GOOD. (Oh, except for the silly REMOVE THE ENGINE COVER to check the oil... on a car that needs it checked VERY FREQUENTLY by DESIGN...)

Other than those details, I think those 8's are pretty tough. A guy who works for me has a "SHINKA" edition? "black-cherry" model that is very nice. We went for a spin in it just the other day, and I had MAJOR DEJAVU going back to my 13B Turbo days... I ALWAYS loved the overall lines, stance, cockpit, and personality of my RX-7 Turbo II.... I even "tolerated" the funky FIRE-ORANGE RED color.... (NO MORE RED CARS, though.... not for me, anyway!) --> I just HATED being a "HARD TARGET" for all Ohio State's FINEST... (and YOU know what I mean, Brian!)
