did u drop your other car with the 215/50/17 deal?? how low

The other car is a Infiniti G35 sedan, and it is not lowered. I only mention the size because it has a smaller sidewall than the size you mentioned and I'm not worried about my rims with that size.

215/50 will be closer to stock diameter, and youll probably have less chance of rubbing, or do 225/45

If you have the 16" OEM rims which came with 205/55/16 then a 17" rim with 205-235/45/17 will match up perfectly.

My TRD rims came with toyo 225/45/17 tires and comparing the height they were almost exactly equal

My OE tires were 205/60/16, which have a larger diameter than 245/45/17. Frankly, I think 245/45/17 look a little small in the wheel well, unless the car is dropped at least 2". However, that size and 215/50/17 would be his best bet if he's worried about rubbing.

215/50/17 Definitely OK
225/50/17 99% sure that it will be OK. The only reason I can't say 100% is that I don't know of anyone with that size and a lowered car. I know of several people with that size with stock suspension components and they have no problem.

Post your results whenever you get your rims and tires. I'll be really curious to see how they look and how you like the them. As I said in a previous post, I plan to get that same size in the future, although I'll probably go with 7.5" rims. Since my fenders are already slightly rolled, I should be OK with that width.

5x114.3 for all Camry and related models since 1992.

So what's the largest size wheel you can use w/o having to roll the fenders, 8" or 8.5"?

7.5" width. 8 is already borderline rubbing.

One more quick thing- do you need to be more careful with the 18's because of potential rubbing, or is it something else? And should I wait to get larger tires/wheels until I get the tokico & eibach's?

Your speedometer and ABS are geared to the wheel/tire size that came as original equipment on your car. Generally speaking, when you go to larger rims, you want the overall diameter of the wheel and tire to be as close as possible to your original equipment (OEM). Assuming that your original tire size is 205/60/16, the best size tire for 17" rims is 225/45/17, especially if you plan to lower your car. This size is actually somewhat smaller in diameter than your current tire, but not enough to affect the speedo too much. Ryan (Flipside909) is saying that if you go to 18" rims, the 225/40/18 tire is actually closer in size to the original equipment tire than the 225/45/17 tire.

You only need to be careful about rubbing if you go to a tire wider than 225, or a wheel wider than 7.5". The larger the diameter of the wheel, however, the more potential problems you have with scratching and bending them. You have less sidewall, so there is less cushioning against road irregularities. It's easier to scratch the larger wheels on the curb when parking.

As Jay said in the last post, you should probably wait till you lower the car before going to the bigger wheels and tires. Otherwise, you'll get a bit of an SUV look.

Good info.
