Sorry to go off on an tangent, but why in the world would they do that on a car that essentially has a 2-stroke engine (assuming I understand The Wankel Design Principals correctly)?

For the same reason many men wear underwear AND pants that require removal to check their "dip-stick"?

To correct Crisp's comment earlier.

You do not need to remove the engine cover to check the oil. You have to remove it when you ADD oil. Basically, you have to check the oil every other tank of fuel. Depending on the driving, you add about 1 QT between oil changes. No biggie. So if you're ever stranded needing a quart of oil, just look for an RX-8. They will have one or two extras in the trunk.

The cover is no problem to remove as it requires no tools. The engine bay looks awesome with it, so I have no issues.

When you really think about it, women should be the ones in pants and men should be in kilts (or some sort of unbifurcated garment).

That's actually the most thoughtful, intelligent, and compelling comment I've heard in this forum in many moons.... 8)

THANK YOU for the clarification! :D That makes a considerable difference in both practical effect, and impression regarding the 8. My Supra requires me to carry a quart of Mobile 1 15w50 all the time as well... since I "consumed" between .5 and 1.0 quarts per 3,000 mile interval with that car as well... not even a hassle when you are diligent about your fluids anyway. (I check the oil on my '04 Solara multiple times between changes... even though it has yet to require an additional drop at 56k miles.)

I need to ask to DRIVE my friends 8!!!

i was too but since the new 07 Tundras are getting ready to come out, this was way cheaper than the Tacomas. They gave me a $4K rebate, and i was still able to negotiate about $1.5K less plus they added the bed liner. The tundra is a bit too big for me (but that's ok, I can get used to it) but was cheaper. And it's sure fun as heck to drive too!

The V8 is not underpowered. I've driven V8 Tundras and it will easily smoke the tires. I have a V8 4Runner, which is also not underpowered. Have you ever driven a V8 Toyota??

where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
