TRD steering wheel

MCOjerry wrote:OK, but that's my point, no airbag...if it doesn't work, then it might as well not be there....why would you want a steering wheel w/o an airbag.

You get in an accident and you could be screwed...plus, you could get sued. What if you let someone borrower your car and they hit something? They get really hurt and sue you because you purposely had no functioning airbag.

I just think it's silly to replace the steering wheel with one not having a functioning airbag...plain silly.

the airbag does work....but because it hasn't been DOT approved, they won't take the liability of saying that it works....

I got a reply for Carson Toyota regarding this:

Q: Can I install the TRD steering wheel for 01 toyota solara without any hub or any other extra stuff? What's the reason for the airbag non deployment in impact if it comes with a srs airbag?

A: You might have to search online for a kit to make the horn function but it will install fine without a hub. The reason for the off road use only is because this is a japan steering wheel. As such, its connectors in the back are for the jdm cars which are different for the us market, there might be ways to modify it and even adapters kits available online from different sources, but we have to list it as offroad use because its a japan part.

OK...they could have just said that. Seems like it would be more of a liability to lie about the deployment rather than just say it's not approved.

EDIT::

So, it won't deploy without modification then...so no airbag afterall.

Do you think it's odd then, that the retailer doesn't know about his item? Do you think they would be reputable if they aren't knowledgable?

here is spiked mantis.....

talk to him

I have always like this set up. I'm due for a new steering wheel anyways. Where can I find spike mantis? I don't recall him being on this forum in a while, if at all.

I'm still here, just not a big post whore. I got my wheel from a 7th Gen Celica GT. On mine, the airbag was plug and play. I do have to splice the wires to get the horn and cruise control working, which I have not done yet.

^ tell us if you ever get the cruise control working....if I remember correctly, the wires actually don't match up, even though the horn wires do

tony has it on his car, but he doesn't have cruise control any more after his turbo setup, and ratko never was able to figure out how to make the cruise control work on his....

I think Arief (happy aggies) was able to get the cruise control set up. I he spliced something wrong, and had some controls backwards on the cruise control. I think if you search you'll find it.
