question on ride quality

Postby richt1271 » Sun Apr 27, 2003 3:27 pm

i been driving on my tokico blues/ ground control for 2k miles...they suck badly...maybe my car is too low...1.4finger gap in front, 2 fingers on back. does anyone know off the bat or estimate how low that is?

also question for yanks..whats the finger gap do u have on ur car? i remebr it was eibach pro 1.6'' lower. is it 225/45/17s tires correct?

my question is...should i change my shocks? or get lowering springs..i see eibach pro only 1.6inches... what other shocks or springs are avaliable thats good and lower than 1.6'' drop? ...i searched around and im not sure which are good. please give some links. thanks in advance.

The problem is the ground control springs. They are of poor quality. Switching to the Eibachs, vogtlands or even the tien springs will fix this problem.

I have 225/45/17 and my wheel gap is a little more than 1 in the rear and 2 in the front. Looks perfect if you ask me. Pics are available on my sounddomain site.

Keep your struts, the tokico blues are your best bet, but definately get rid of the GC

so u got 1.6 drop...im kind of new at this...

why do u put 2 finger gap in the front and 1finger+ in the back?
isn't the front suppose to be lower than back?

and how is the back lower if the drop is 1.6?

i was going to get eibach but i thought 1.6 would be too high off the ground...but seems like u have about the same drop as me ...

mine: 1.5 finger at front, 2 at back
yours: opposite.

thx alot btw..sry for so much questions heh.

When I had my stock 16" wheels, the gap was about 1-1/2 fingers in the back and about 2 in the front, if I remember correctly.

Just a guess, but I think you'd always have a bigger gap in the front because of the turning of the wheels. If you don't leave more gap, it would be easier for the wheels to hit the inside of the fenders when you're turning under load. The Solara does not have flared fenders, so there isn't a lot of room.

I'm glad to know that someone else has a 2 finger gap in the front and one in the back. I thought that they were just my springs (intrax). Looks fine though.

It's weird. Peter and I have the same suspension setup Eibach/Tokico and my gap is a tad smaller than his front and back.

I think it's because of that whole Eibach change of springs. They started packing rear Camry springs instead of the Solara springs.

Maybe Peters yellow stopper things on the strut weren't cut. I'm not too sure what that part name is, sorry. I know that you have to cut those in half when you install your shocks.
