TireRack.com tire question...

Postby LatinDragonXJC » Sat Jan 20, 2007 7:37 am

I have a question, I hope someones awake to answer it. I just recently (last night) ordered my new tires on TireRack , I chose 215/60/16 . So I get a call this morning from one of their representatives, he wanted to verify the size I chose before he released it, since the height (60) , was a half size larger. I currently have 215/55/16. He told me TireRack couldn't guarantee the fit, Is the difference in size that much? or they're just going by company policy?

I'm thinking logically here, a half size might be bigger, but our wheel well fits 18s......it should fit, no?

For these type of Gen 1 stockies (btw these are funboy102 wheels)

the stock rims originally come with 205-60-16, i believe the 99s came with 205-55-16 for some reason). Side wall size "60" is a percentage of the width "205" of the tire. a 215-60-16 is oversized and more similar to a 205-65-16 in diameter, overall diameter will be larger now be larger than stock.

All in all, they'll fit.

Thanks for the replies! I didn't want to shoot myself in the food. Does the larger diameter make for a more comfortable ride?

It'll fit but a 215/55 16 would look better. Sometimes too much sidewall isn't a good thing. Jon.

I have those on my car right now. And they ride fine. I would think the larger the sidewall, the smoother the ride. but with only a difference of 5, i dont think you'll notice anything.

he is just doing that to cover their rears. i ordered my 17's on their site and they said the same thing. 215/50/17 said they couldn't gaurantee fitment, but I KNEW they would fit. Just company policy.

A lot of places make you SIGN-OFF on a "non-OEM" size if you insist on it... they will also often VOID the warranty on the job and the tires.

I ALWAYS specify the size I want, not what they recommend.... but do your homework...

a larger overall diameter will def increase comfort of ride and power to the wheels but it'll slightly throw off your MPH.

thanks guys, I went for them because the half size larger was alot cheaper then 55....so I said to myself, the difference can't be that big I can live with more tire until I get new wheels in the spring. Thanks again for the replies.

^^^yeah foot, Im aware of the tire size calculators. But wasn't sure if they fit the actual wheel since they called for that. And those tire size calculators.........do they measure comfort? ...if they do, could you search it for me. Thanks.
