Help - Receiver hitch mounting bolts ????

Help - Receiver hitch mounting bolts ????

Postby GROG » Tue Apr 29, 2003 1:17 pm

Hey guys, I want to mount a hitch on my solara to use for a bike rack I have. I have the hitch, it goes on with 4 bolts to the frame. The frame has threaded inserts to bolt into. My problem is I'm not sure what size bolt to use. I know, buy a couple and try, but the inserts are rusted a bit and I don't want to force in a bolt that might be close if it's the wrong size. I'm guessing it's a 10mm but not sure. Also not sure if it would be a fine thread or a course. Any help??

i dont think any solara nor camry guys on here have a hitch installed. however just go to the local hardware store, grab the bolts, and see what happens. im sure they will let you borrow a few to see what type of bolt it is, so no harm going, since you are unsure what bolt it is.

like you said above, you dont want to strip or re course the threads of the housing

i just installed U-haul's class 2 round tube trailer hitch on my 00 camry. didn't your hitch come with the four bolts? i can check on what the size of my bolts are when i get home. it was listed in the install manual (i think). but i probably won't be back to post till next week. if you want, though, you can email me, and i should be able to get back to you right away. noozie3@yahoo.com

It's not a waste of money if you actually have practical purposes for it. Think about it.

Thanks guys, I didn't think I could be the only person who uses their cars for other than shows. Yes I love the way my car looks, but I also need to be able to trasport my mountain bike. The hitch will be almost totally out of site when the bike rack isn't on it, and it was either mount the hitch on my solara or my maxima, I chose the solara.

You could just fold down the seat and take off the front wheel and the bike will fit in the trunk.

why not install a overhead bike rack on? tow hitch style just seems flimsy to me.

The tow hitch version is actually alot more solid. And the overhead rack isn't really pleasing to the eye...nor is it friendly to your paint.
