first things first tho... still looking into the lowering, from what I have gathered so far turning will be better but I will feel the road more, I'm worried about backing down my driveway too...

those headlights will run you $1500 or so. you can however get the black housed headlights for under $200..... they wont have projectors though :(

No... but you should work on getting a little larger rim for a really GOOD effect. It is not very cost effective OR logical to simply replace your 16's... most guys suggest AT LEAST 18's on these. I am an "EXCEPTION" in that I chose 17's... but they are a quality rim that WORKS well with my car, in my opinion. They also maintained the "ride" and current RUBBER I had, and were the only available set IN THIS MAKE AND TYPE FOR THE PRICE! Lot's of factors there. Since your options are WIDE OPEN, don't simply settle on 16's to match your rubber. You will likely regret it later.

Spend you money on OTHER nice mods for now... DROP, RSB, INTAKE of SOME sort... (I like CP-e... but it's hard to obtain...)

Anyway... you'll get plenty of similar advice in here, I'm sure...

(Others are gonna tell you it WILL look silly....)

id agree crisp, your car might be the only gen2 that looks good on aftermarket 17's (that ive seen so far).

the solara is a fat a** so id say if you have a gen2 go with atleast 18"
and if you have a slightly "slimmer" gen1 like our new friend here, go with atleast 17's.

Hey welcome to the board, sorry I jump on the topic a bit late.

But if you say you have 2000 set aside for mods you can have a pretty good jump start. I lowered, tinted my windows, and put new 18'' rims and tires on my car for $2000 bucks.

To give you the prices I paid to give you an idea:
I lowerd my car with tein/tokico combo for $600 bucks

I got a set of 18'' rims for $700 bucks and the tires from tirerack.com for $400 bucks. the total is $1100

Then tinting my windows only cost me $180 bucks so I did all that for $1880. Keep in mind though I installed my own suspension and im assuming you dont know how to do that so expect to pay another $200 - $300 bucks for someone else lowering your car.

My opinion on the rims is that its not worth the money to get another set of 16'' rims just to use the new tires you have. It just doesnt have that aggressive look. But depending on if you live in a snow climate area you will want to keep your stock wheels and tires for better traction in the snow and put on the new rims for the summer. Thats what I do, right now im rocking the same rims as you! And if you dont live in a snow area you could probably sell your rims and tires on here or ebay to get some of your money back to do other mods like a renova grill or black headlights. Think of it this way if you have two sets of rims with new tires on each and you use both sets for half a year you wont have to buy any tires for a long long time!

P.S. you wont have any problems backing out the driveway lowered. I have a steep curve at the end of mine and I have no problem with it. If you get a trd kit and lower it then you may have some issues.

thanks Solorange that is pretty much exactly what I'm doing. I have a friend(my boss) who has built a car so im hoping he will do the lowering for me in exchange for a 24 pack or something :P

Yah ive decided to go ahead and get 17 or 18 inch wheels and just switch out the tires like everyone said... but next year... gotta show em off this year at least lol

ok this is kind of a dumb question but I was thinking... If I lower the car it will be about 1.7 inches lower to the ground ... But if I buy 18' inch tires wont that cancel out the lowering of it because the car will sit 2 inches higher then it is now on my 16's?
