Solarafreek wrote:^^^ no because your 18" tires will have a smaller side wall..hopefully lol

And in addition to the lower sidewall on your tires, the "gap" between your tire and fenders will lessen, thus making your car look lower...

I had 20s w/ TRD springs and my car sat almost as high as stock but it didnt look nearly as high because I had no wheel/fender gap...

Stainless, I did rims before suspension, and let me tell you, a plus one or plus two upgrade in your wheel size will make your wheel well gap look A LOT bigger!

Now I chose 17's out of necessity (NY potholes, grrr!!!). If I had to do it again, I would probably still go with 17's even though I live down in FL where we have some very smooth roads and dont have to worry about the snow.

Springs and struts was one of the best mods I have done. Not only did the tein drop reduce squat and lean, got rid of the ugly wheel well gap and give the car an aggressive stance/rake; it made my rims look bigger! Compared to my neighbor who owns a 1999 Solara I4 on 18" rims, my rims look way larger. He was shocked to hear that I was rolling 17's. He thought they were at least 18". Food for thought.

my other mods...
20% tint all around
17" rims
tein springs / tokico struts
clear corners
trunk debadge
apex'i world sport cat-back exhaust
cp-e intake and maf customizer
4 ga ground wires
infinity kappa perfect speakers, 10" sub, clarion mp3 h/u
custom dash lighting

Your friends probably meant "Grandma Car" in the context of the deep south, which would put the driver in her mid to late thirties/early forties.

I have a black gen 1 also, and I've heard the grandma comments too. I love my car, but lets be honest - who do you see driving solaras? Either the driver is in his 20s, or like 65

Midas

I say the "car age sector" like (young car, grandma car, etc..) (haha sorry for my lack of vocabulary) can just be justified by the way you drive it !!

Pontiac Firefly sport with young blood flooring the I-3 engine isn't more sportive than a granny in a my black Gen 2 ! ;)
