need upgrade advice

Postby Sgtk » Tue Feb 06, 2007 2:40 pm

the car is in Boston, MA and that is where i'll be driving it this summer.
I've already put 10k miles on it (i got it with less than 10k miles just over a year ago) and I think the breaks that are in it have been properly "broken in" . I just know that the breaking system is only power assist and not full power. Is it possible to have full power breaks installed?

Also, I was curious if there is anything that can be done to the computer within the car to increase performance, perhaps in the automatic transmission? I'm still somewhat new to car modifcations so I'm not really sure how far one can go with the Solara.

So far the springs, RSB and catback exhaust seem like the best upgrades

Again, welcome to SG.....

Sounds like you found a catback system you want.
Springs/Struts: people commonly use Tokico struts/Eiback springs or Tein springs. of course there's TRD too, but knowing what I know now...I would've gone with a coilover set-up to start with....although you'll pay the price ~$1200 unless you can get a used set.
Brake pads: Personally, I'd save my money until my brake pads wore down then replace them with an upgrade (different rotors too if you want). If you do decide to wait, then I'd suggest an intake (CPE or Injen are most common. If ram air is something you don't want, UPFD [Under Pressure Fabrication and Design] offer a cold air extension for the Injen). Just something to think about.

....and there's no computer upgrades or chips to answer your question. The one's on Ebay are rips, don't bother.

wow such low miles.

welcome to sg first of all.
things to do for trd in my opinion of you want ALL TRD stuff id go with it in this order..

1. trd springs/struts (hard to find but good stuff) other brands are Eibach springs, KYB struts, Tokico struts...
OR BETTER YET, get coilovers, expect to pay 1g+ unless if you find some for sale around here or on the net for around $850
2. trd fsb and rsb
3. trd rims (TSW Revos -- extremely hard to get)
4. trd kit, authentic ones have the center piece in the rear
5. trd axle back muffler . other options are the Greddy Evo2 catback exhaust or the JIC Magic exhaust.
6. trd brake pads
7. trd s/c

rsb is a really good one if you're interested pm NVDIS1, he has a few left I think.
speaking of which i need to buy one as well.

the rsb will help in handling a lot. the trd exhaust is a low tone and not ricey, not loud either. just perfect imo.

The kit obviously will make the car much more aggressive and goes real good with the trd muffler

the rims, enough said.

Springs/struts obviously lower the stance

the pads obviously help a lil bit in stopping power. just a tad

and the supercharger is obviously a lil bump in power.
it's hard to find s/c's now for solaras.. but there is one for sale for 1300 but that is for a manual 5-speed, you failed to state if your car was auto or manual.

other minor stuff you might want to get if you're up for it.. is
Injen intake, or cpe intake. tint, sound system if you like, hid, shaved emblems ( i personally consider that a must ), clear corners (personal preference), and/or the renova grill.

err. I dont know what else to say, but happy modding.

and again, welcome to SG.

^ correct. that is the link.
we are not loaded, at least most of us aren't I wouldnt think. it's all about heart and love for our cars, not money.
