Wind noise from drivers side

Wind noise from drivers side

Postby Guest » Tue Apr 29, 2003 10:42 pm

Has anyone experience any wind noise coming from the driver's side of the door? Usually, if I exceed the speed of 70, then I am able to hear some wind noise. Thx

i had that. i still do. but if you think, there are tiny holes that air can get into. the faster you go, the more pressure and resistance goes against the glass, creating the whistling sound.

i have it on the passager side. went to to dealer fix it for 3 times, never got it fixed. Got toyota headquater service supervisor to exam it, he claim its normal road noise. he said "I hear nothing".

I had that on my old car... it seems the window didn't stay perfectly closed... the window would sag down slightly...

thats the thing with frameless windows...I have that in my ES and my celica....it develops over time, what I have learnt to do (in my ES) is close my doors with windows down..and then then roll em up...that reduced the wind noice!

my car started doing this recently, it sounds like the window is open a crack as soon as i hit 140km/h (someone convert...)
it was never there before, and much too noticeable to be normal
i told toyota, they ordered me a new weatherstrip under warranty

Thx for the replys. I brought my car to Toyota HQ about the wind noise. They said they don't hear any wind noise. That's bull*. Seems like Toyota don't want to fix the problem.

Well, tell them to ride along with you.
That's what I did when the mechanics said that they could not find anything wrong.

design parameters set the window seal to perform with an expected rate of performance based on street legal speed limits. unfortunately, 70mph is at the high end of the tolerance, and therefore that's why only a few (me too) are experiencing the problem. The 6 sigma spec allows for some variation, so in Toyota's mind does not merit a design change on one or 2 vehicles per million.

Heck, if you were running the bus, would do the same thing.
Otherwise you'd be out of business from over designing your product.

recommend cleaning the seals periodically with simple soap and water on a rag. make sure your window op's correctly and don't push down on it when in down mode. this just weakens (opens) the tolerance so when the window is up it may be a couple mills short of it's resting (closed) position.

NOW, if MDOT changed the speed limits like they have in Europe, I'm sure Toyota would address this, since we would be moving at a faster click than the MDOT 70 limit we have now.

went to the dealer too

Postby mischiefsolara1 » Sat Jun 21, 2003 11:47 pm

He said its just the way that the air comes off of the hood, and hits the window you get little whirlwinds that whistle as they go by. Its normal and there's nothing you can do he said.
