gen 2 rims on gen 1 body

from my previous searches it looks like this topic has been beaten to death, but im still short a bit of info on what exactly needs to be done to get gen 2 rims to fit on a gen 1 car.

ive read something about needing spacers, but want to make sure i get all the parts necessary the first time around. so if anyone would be so kind to help out i'd appreciate it.

i currently have a stock 02 solara, not lowered, doesnt plan to be lowered, with stock 15" rims, i want to get the gen 2 17" 5spoke or even the camry 17" 6 spoke rims (both have a +45 offset i belive).

if i order a set of rims, is the only other thing i need (besides lugs/caps) to get them to fit on a gen 1 car, 15mm spacers in the rear? or am i going to be looking at getting something else also.

thanks again for the help.

Wheels, 15mm spacers for the rear (H&R FTW, since they come with extended studs and are hubcentric), maybe roll rear fenders (Depending on the size of tire you go with) but not really needed since you are not lowering, OEM Lugs (since the wheels are stud-centric).

Thats it.

ok, so the rims i got came in.. look good, after calling around to some local tire shops, seems NONE of them will touch it because i need the 15mm spacers on the rear.. some kind of safty issue or something..

so now i must resort to doing the work myself, which is not a problem, just a minor inconvience.

i do have a question though, to get the old studs out (and put in the longer ones) its pretty simple right? just pounding out the old ones? or is there some kind of tricky install procedure that toyota did on this car. i havent taken off the wheels to look yet, trying to get an idea of whats involved before i do.

just an FYI..

i didnt need spacers after all, PLENTY of room under there at stock height, at least on my car, i could probably stand to lower it and still not be in danger of the tire rubbing the strut..

tire size i used is 215/50/17

you basically have to force them out. there is a tutorial on how to change the brake pads and rotors and that will basically tell you how. it took me 15 mins on each to do.

It may look like you have enough room, but you dont. trust me. i road with them without spacers for about 4 months and you can see on the strut where it rubs and on the tires as well.
