Brakes

Postby sel2000 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 8:26 am

I replaced the front calipers, rotors and brake pads on my 2000 SEL Solara in April 2006 at a local shop in Richmond Hill. Brake warning light comes on in February 2007 and dealer discovers calipers leaking and brake pads soaked in fluid!! S0 $900 to the first shop for brakes all around and 10 months later $600 for the dealer to rebuild the front. To say the least I am not impressed.

if you got new front calipers and all brake components done at one shop less than a year before failure, you should return to the original shop.

You definately need to see if theres a warranty on those calipers (you'll usually get a year on parts)

Why'd you replace the calipers to begin with?

The shop probably didn't use OEM calipars and rebuilds of some aftermarket ones...

This is why i stick to OEM on some stuff...

Calipers were replaced as they were sticking, seized on one side and causing brake chatter in the front end. Probably a result of road salt corrosion. Thanks for the comments, dealer is expensive, but at least the quality is there.
