NEED ADVICE

Well people its been a while since i posted keep getting deployed but im back and got some major problems on my way back to germany from france my car started making a wierd noise in the engine it sounds kinda when a car its running low on oil but the oil level is good. after taking the car to the mechanic this morning i was told that the crank bearings might be my problem and that the sparkplug coils are also bad. my problem is i only owe 4k on the car its good 98k miles on it, if the problem its not the crank bearings and its a major engine problem i dont think its worth fixing it specially since im gettin ready to separate from the military and im trying to save as much as possible. any advice u guys and gals can give would be really appreciated im out of chices either i can fixed it w/ about 1k or i might have to junk it.

PS its a 99 SLE

thanks

get a quote for the work and then get a second opinion (with a quote). Whats working against you is that you owe on this car. HAd this been a free and clear car, you would be thinking otherwise

Question is, can you sell it as-is for what you owe on it? Trade it in or ???

If it's crank bearings: it might be a sludge problem: Take it to a dealer and see what they say. Worst case scenareo they charge you $100 or whatever to tell you it's your fault...

You might get new eve3rything for free, though. I got bearings, rings and a timing belt for my sludge problem. De Gratis!

well heres an update, mechanic says it looks like it is the "connecting rod bearings". can any body give me any input on this, what exactly am i lookin at, how bad is it and if i fix it is there potential for other parts to be damage in the future from this, like i said in the beggining i love my lara but if this is going to cause a chain reaction and keep breaking parts i might as well sell it. any advice will be appreciated.
