how to take off auto shift

How do you take off the shifter on automatic transmission?

just seeing whether if I want to put another one or not because I'm not really fond of the stock one.

I also know you'll need to relocate the O/D button, how would you do that? ..

i thought there was a screw on the lower front sections.

Gen 1/1.5 have an O/D button on the shifter.

i knwo there is a screw but i wasnt sure if that took it off or not.
my main concern is how to rewire/relocate the o/d button if i plan on putting on another shifter.

is there a certain size to this shifter like thread size or anything like that? or are all these shifter knobs universal?

This is a real sweet shifter, it was pretty easy to install.

I have the chrome and wood A/T in my car, it looks oem imo.

I used this tutorial to install it.

Buy yourself a small pipe cutter, to cut the shaft.

this is the same shifter that i have and it comes with an O/D button already on it.

if you don't want it sitting too high (which looks pretty stupid IMO) get a dremel instead of a "pipe cutter" and hack 2 inches off the shift rod.

REMOVAL: 2 phillips screws on the FRONT of the shift knob (facing engine) after you take these out, slide the shift knob up. watch out for the gear-shift button popping out as you slide the knob up.

way to high; looks like the size of the old oem (black) one.

I cut mine just even with the ashtray in the SLE, looks nice IMO

that looks great! question though, I was checking out the website links given to where I can purchase this shifter and looking at the instructions... how hard is it exactly I mean some of the stuff makes sense but i'm guessing the car in the pics was a grand prix or something? how much different is the solara then the prix?

"i don't get it."

how much difference is what? there's a pic of the solara with the shifter right here, man. as far as the install, it's a simple 2 wire hook-up for the O/D button.

one thing i will say: it takes 2 PUSHES of the O/D button in order for it work afterwards. well, with that shifter anyway...

i wonder if that'll mess with the o/d indicator light as well in the dash lol.
looks like we'll find out in a week or so.
