I still take it out every now and then and i notice a smell of burnt oil or something as i get out the car after a pushing the car a little. So i went to investigate more. Step 1 take off plastic cover with 5 or 6 mm alen wrench. Step 2 remove 10 mm bolts holding on valve cover. Step 3 remove old gasket and install new one in valve cover apply gasket maker if called for by instructions in gasket package. Install is reverse of removal. Total time required about 30 min.

There is an interim thing you can do until you are ready to change the gasket. I use a spray can of brake cleaner on the oil deposits around the gasket area. The oil deposits melt and wash away like magic. I've used this method for years as I clean the engine to keep it looking like new. I use brake cleaner every time I do an oil change to get rid of the oil that leaked when I take off the oil filter. It all falls on the newspapers under the car. No fuss or mess.

I mentioned that I use this method to my service guy at Toyota and he said that they do the same thing after doing oil changes.
