fuel filter replacement

i have 00 solara 4 banger and i was wondering how hard is it to change the fuel filter in my lara.. any ideas??

quick question: What milage are you at? I've asked this from my toyota tech friend..and every times I get the same answer from him. You don't need to change the filter until there is a problem. he's seen toyota with over 1/4 million miles on the original filter and nada problems.

Plus, ive heard that if you try to change the filter, theres about a 50/50 chance you'll break the screws, line, and then your kinda f*cked

its not that hard to change a fuel filter.. did it on my 240sx but it was quite easy to do .. dont know where it is on the solara,, and as for braking things,, it was pretty smooth.. just a bit hard to get the hose of the old filter but no screws were injured during the operation

Its a pain in the ass if you have large hands and large tools But Since your a 4 banger it might be alittle easier for you guys.


ANd toyota is wrong about not changing it until theres a problem. We recently changed a filter on a 120K mile camry and found the filter has eaten itself out. The car ran fine and no one ever knew. It was an OEM filter too.

Is it just the position of the filter & bolts? or just its locktite'd on good? Would some penetrating oil work?

the position is usually not in the best of places, since it is hardly ever changed (it's not too too bad on the 1mz), and it's on really nice and tight because it hasn't been touched since the car was built usually

and penetrating oil is the perfect solution- I soaked both my top and bottom bolts for about 2 days and they both came off with no problems even after being on the car for 13years non-touched

Shizz Not the filter we took off the camry. It had filter its own paper filter out. There was barely anything left in it.

I just changed my fuel filter today. All I did was drove until my low gas light came on then open the gas cap. I removed the whole air filter assembly. The only difficult part was removing that bolt at the bottom to disconnect the inline from the filter (you have to turn it CLOCKWISE when looking down from above the filter). Not too much fuel came out. I laid an old T shirt underneath the filter to absorb any fuel, and that was sufficient.

I had to pull the wrench on that bolt pretty hard to get it loose, but I made sure that the wrench was on it securely so that it doesnt strip the bolt.

My car is at 85k miles right now, and after replacing the filter the car felt a lot stronger when passing others on the freeway (either that or I am just imagining it). But none-the-less, some people say it doesn't need to be replaced, but I do recommend it after having replaced it myself.
