Best tires for 99 stock SLE?

Hi there,

I just got my alignment done (I did the lifetime for only $150, which means I can have it done whenever needed without an additional cost), and of course I was told that my tires needed to be replaced, which I am well aware of actually, but have been procrastinating.

I am currently using the Michelin Energy, and it drives great (back when it was new).

Firestone sales people recommended the Bridgestone Potenza G009.

What kind of tires would you recommend? I actually prefer more comforts then performance (but I do need to be able to take a curve when necessary!).

I'm from Vancouver, BC so we get a lot of rain. I've been extremely happy with my Goodyear Assurance tipple tread. I switched from the factory Michelin Energy and was pleasantly surprised with the grip in the wet. I kept my factory size 205/60R16 and seem to remember paying around $175 a tire. They're substantially cheaper in the United States (I checked and was about to drive down to buy them there).

They're a pretty decent blend of comfort & performance. I find them a tad noisy on the freeway depending on conditions. They definitely tend to pull if there's deep ruts in the road but on flat roads they're well mannered.

They're sure as heck not cheap, but have a long treadwear warranty. I've only had mine about 10,000km (6,000miles) but thus far they seem to be doing well.

After putting these on I did end up too cheap to buy snow tires, these perform moderately in snow. Definitely no replacement for snow tires but for the two weeks of snow we had they performed well enough to get me to and from work. Then again, I definitely tried to avoid hills or areas with a lot of snow buildup.

Toyo TPT's. They have great tread wear, performance & very quite on the highway.

I have the Bridgestone G009's, they're great tires IMHO. They have excellent traction in inclement weather.

how about these tires, the ratings are a little bit better all around compare to the Potenza RE960AS Pole Positon.

I have the stock 16" rims, the size is 215/60-16.
They do not have this exact size for the Potenza . Should I go with 205/55ZR16, 215/55ZR16, 225/50ZR16, 225/55ZR16, 225/60ZR16?

If I go with the Michelin Pilot Exalto, should I go with 215/60HR16, or 215/60VR16? Thank you for your help.

205/55-16 will be too small. I run 215/55 now, and think I will go to 215/60 next time to get a teensy bit more ground clearance (I'm lowered with Eibach/Tokico) And 205s are just too small. I was told by the tire guy that 225 would bo too wide for the stock rim (2000 SLE)

I've got BFGoodrich traction T/As. they grip really well (At least compared to those Michelin Energy (BTW: I think those tires are CRAP)) And weren't too expensive atabout $120 apiece

I second the Toyo recomendation, I've got a set on my 2000 SE, they are quiet on the highway and I haven't had any trouble in snow, slush, or rain (about the only damn driving conditions I've had in the past months here in Wisconsin)

It seems like we get this same question every few months. Hands down the best tires I have owned are my current Yokohama Avid H4s and Avid V4s. I've had Pirelli, Michelin, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Goodyear, etc on various family cars but these tires are unbeatable. They are so good I have them on 4 of 4 family sedans and Yokohama SUV tires on our HL.
