Are you looking for some performance gains or just looks?

I know the TRD muffler isn't that loud at all plus it looks nice. It is however on the pricey side though. You could get a custom cat back exhaust job done at a muffler shop for less than what you would pay for a TRD muffler by itself. I would look at the following:

-Stock muffler with new tip (Looks, no sound change & no performance gains)

-Universal muffler or after market (Looks, sounds & better exhaust flow with some performance gains.) If you decide to upgrade your piping I wouldn't go larger than .25in from the stock size unless you plan on getting a supercharger for it. Too big of a pipe will decrease back pressure & result in loss of torque.

- TRD muffler that's a straight up bolt on & can be installed yourself in less than a hour tops. (Looks, Mild sound change & performance gains are debatable)

Keep in mind that if you do go after market or TRD that you have your resonator kept in place to filter out sound as well.

No problem...When you do get your exhaust let it break in for about 500 miles or so to see if you like the way it sounds or not. You could always upgrade your resonator to filter more sound if its to much for your liking.

If you just want cosmetic, then stick with your OEM muffler and put a tip on it. ;)

i'd like to add also that V6s do have a quieter exhaust note compared to a 4cyl. Just food for thought if you're going the custom route.

magnaflows are going to be too loud. Just get the Apexi WS, i have one which i purchased after spending money on another muffler that was too loud so then spent more overall. Buy quality from the start, you wont regret it. If you don't have the money to mod, dont do it.

Honestly, if appearance is all you want, I agree. Stick with the OE muffler and a tip. Treat it to a fresh coat of high temp black because I'm sure the OE paint has flaked off by now. (ArvinSango Inc makes the OE muffler and their paint process is inferior.)

If you MUST change the muffler, go with the largest body you can fit in there. You will need a offset inlet / center outlet muffler. (Dynomax Superturbos are reverseable as so are MagnaFlows.)

SuperTurbo 17730 has 2" inlet and outlet tubes. The Muffler can size these up slightly to be a closer match to your OE pipe size.

Otherwise the SuperTurbo 17731 has 2.25" inlet and outlet. New inlet elbow and out spout would need to be made anyway. 2.25" will be slightly louder than the 2". Again, it depends on what you want. The OE system has restrictions after the inlet pipes down to 48.6mm (1.91").

you dont have to buy the whole exhaust system to get the Apexi WS, they sell just the muffler for $200.
