Bad front struts??

Bad front struts??

Hey, I was wondering if any of you have had problems with your front struts? My car is a 99 and only has 62,000 miles on it and I think the struts are already going on the car. There is a lot of clanging and banging in the front, especially when I go over speed bumps. I read somewhere that there was a recall on this but I can't seem to find where I read that. i think it's crappy that i am going to have to replace them already.

strut mount or sway bar links? Check the sway bar links first before you jump to struts, then check out if the towers are making the noise.

Seems like everyone had problems with their struts. I just replaced the link on the front left and it helped with the majority of the noise. I am planning on replacing the sway bar bushing next. I've already replaced the rubber parts in the strut assembly and that didn't help. Now I still have some rattling when I go over bumps or driving on/off my driveway.

So definitely, check the links first.

not a problem, I heard this was a pretty common problem with the solara's, I just wanted to be sure. I will have to get my husband out there to check for me.

Thats the first i've heard that us gen1/1.5 solara have a consistant front suspension problem. I'm guessing its islolated incidents. The first sign of worn out struts is your car bottoming out and you hearing a lot thump!

Bad front struts??

Postby Jeffrey Olson » Sat Feb 24, 2007 11:46 am

Consumers Reports says that the 99 and 03 suspensions are "good" and 04 Solaras suspension is "poor" . Good is in the middle and poor is the worst.

I replaced the front shocks and mounts and all the rattles went away. The rears are next...

The early Solaras have a fairly well known problem with the rubber spring mount wearing. They get loose or worn and rattle like crazy. Toyota may cover or at least partially cover it, even out of warranty..
