Fit & Finish

Fit & Finish

Postby 700t » Mon May 05, 2003 6:21 pm

How do you perceive the fit & finish on your Solaras?
I work at TMMC Paint department where all Solaras 217000 Solaras were painted. The Solara ran down the same line in the paint shop as the Corolla and Matrix.
Working on thousands of these cars for the past 8 years I noticed the Corolla & Matrix had better Fit and slightly better finish than Solara.
I always thought this was backwards since the Solara is much more expensive.
Any questions or comments?

Thanks normal though. Part of the effect of using the car as a daily driver.

I've never really had trouble with the finish on my car although the dark paint does show imperfections and seems to scratch very easiely

I've got to agree with the complaints about the durability of the paint. I also have a black car, and it is full of chips and nicks, too. I realize that black will always show imperfections a lot more clearly than other colors, but this seems to be more than you'd expect. Other than that, and the somewhat cheap seats, I think the quality of the components is pretty high.

if you are talkin about the car itself compared to the front and rear bumpers that make it look like diff colors that is because the bumpers are made of a diff material and it shows up as a diff color, noticeable in the sunlight...

I've noticed on my car, as well as some of the others on the forum, that the fit of the doors is a little off. The bottom rear corners tend to sit "in" from the rest of the car.
As for the rock chips? By far the worst car I've owned in that department.
Other than that, the fit and finish is much better than any other cars I've owned.
