So my windshield has a crack.......

So my windshield has a crack.......

Well today I notice I have a small crack in my windshield. It is right dead in the center of the glass (about a half an inch) and looks like it may spread. I checked my insurance policy and in there it states that if it can be repaired, rather than replaced I do not have to pay the deductiable. Has anyone had one of these repaired before? How is that even possible? Damn these California roads!

chips and cracks can sometimes be repaired by being filled in, depending on the extent of the damage.

I know www.autoglas1.com will do house calls, but they are located in socal.

I had a similar problem with a stone chip. Apple Auto Glass ( Canada ) has a crack repair system called Novus. After the repair you could barely notice where the stone chip had been. Very happy with the result and there was a warranty.

your first thing would be to take a piece of scotch tape and tape that crack shut (what this does it prevent this from spreading)...In the past I've used clear-nail-polish as well.

go to you local windshield repair guy - these guys are sometimes at local gas station with a small tent, etc. They charge 20-30 bucks to do this. For 20-30 bucks I wouldn't involve my insurance company. They first clean the affected area, then suck out the air from the crack, fill it with something..and let it seal (preventing cracking - or as they call it webbing).

I've done this many many times..its cheaper than a new windshield. Key is to act quickly on the tape/nailpolish thingie's. GL

Check your local area for windshield repair. You should be able to find one easily. Better to act fast on it before it gets worse!
