i searched but didnt really see anything... so i was wondering if anyone had tried to swap a 2jz into a solara and if it would even fit? I know there would be alot of custom fab crap that would need to be done... but does anyone have any info?

It can be done and it has been done on the Solara Drag cars. It is basicly pointless to do it on a street solara because it will cost way too much and will have allot of rewelding and custom parts to fit and convert the solara into rearwheel drive. unless your trying to be a total sleeper, Buy a supra and go from there. It will save you more time and youll pick up more chicks.

yea... i want the sleeper... it would be a fun project like taking a SL 3000gt and doing a viper motor swap... Do you have any idea what my costs would be? I have a motor and tranny lined up if i decide to do it... So i have that figured out. I know i would have to get a rear end, and i would have to custom fab a bunch of crap... But it would be a great sleeper...

There are some rude assh*** in this board. If he has the money and does not care how much it will cost him go for it. Try going to some drag car chassi shop they will give you a better understanding of pricing and what you would need.

like i said im sorry for what i said but its just anoying to see people throwing stuff like that without any knoledge.. i know dreams are good but learn to change a tire before thinking of that...

on a technical note to do this more realisticly, you need 2 things... tube frame and fiberglass

Actually you don't need tube fram chassi or fiberglass. All you need is a mustang rear end and expand the sidewall pockets. It will give a 90% stock look. I've seen Dodge Avengers fwd converted to rwd with not much cutting. He has the 2 most expensive parts which is the engine and tranny. He might need to modified the firewall and engine bay.

and you would need to redo the floor completly front to back , reinforce roof, rear quarter, trunk x brace frame
, redu firewall and maybe modify dash fiting costum front frame.. etc.. list never ends

Hey man...Due whatever you want to your ride. If you have the resources, time & money why not...right? Keep in mind that the 2JZ motor is a straight 6 engine which is without a doubt longer that a V6 engine. You will be looking at some firewall & engine bay modification.

there are always two things to consider when you are planing a major modification:

1. money and time
2. can you find an experienced reputable tuner to do it?

it is easier and more cost effective if you buy a GS300 or IS300 or SC300 and drop a 2JZGTE in there (OBDI model will be easier btw)

Suggestion

Postby JMSinMaryland » Mon Mar 05, 2007 6:02 pm

I think the negative reaction is because every 6 months some new person joins the forum and asks the same questions, consistently. For a more realistic swap, look at the 3S-GTE mated to the Solara 5-speed tranny. The 3S-GTE is lighter and it says a lot when the Top Secret Supra is running that vs. a 2JZ
