Strut Problem??

Postby ReaDY-SeT-Go » Tue Mar 06, 2007 2:16 pm

hey guys im having some weird noises coming out of the drivers side... and i think its the strut... or spring... but when im rolling around 5mph im getting this creaking sound like a old door being opened then a low clanking sound comes out... i just got my alignment... and they said i got a small camber in the passenger seat... so... what do you guys think?? is it just a loose strut bolt?? i dont know if this has anything to do after i was on the freeway yesterday going 80 on a rough road and my car was kind of bouncing around :(

Well if your bouncing around more then you were before it probably isnt the nut inside the strut mounts, but do try tightening those up.

Did the shop take anything apart? If the noise wasent there before they worked on it, take it back and ask them to move it around a little different...

well the stock struts will go bad after a while if you have aftermark. springs.
the bouncy ride is normal for that set-up...... mine feel the same way right now.... it will only get worse....

hahaha well i just came back from an alignment shop... took them about 2 hours but all they had to say was... "found creaking noise on lowering sprigns/ front axle slight noise/ nothing required at this time" so i guess... the springs or struts probably went bad... i have the front TRD struts just waiting to be installed... do you guys think i should put them in?? or is it the springs that are causing this problem??

well guys i found out what the problem was... but im not really sure... the clanking noises i was talking about got louder and louder today and i was heading home to swap out my strut... but one of my lug nuts snapped off!!! :( and my wheel went flying out in the street haha and i was skidded on my brake pad... and i got a small fender bend... but the wheel got put back on thanks to 3 jacks... and i drove home with 4 lugnuts on the rim... but while i drove home i had a lot of loud grinding noises... so i just want to know what do you guys think i need repaired? :-?

probably that metal shield behind the disc is rubbing and just needs to be bent back into place. This time around make sure the wheels are torqued down. Also check if your wheel bearings are bad too. Glad you were alright.

Man does that suck. I bet you almost shat yourself. :D

Knock on wood that's never happened to me but I did have the car fall off the jack because I didn't use the ebrake like an idiot. I had the same grinding sound too after I drilled about an inch down into the cement. I can't remember exactly what it was but I took it to the dealer and I was in and out in no time. Probably what Pinoy was talking about.
