I may be a real solaraguy soon...

Well guys, I may be joining your ranks over here at solaraguy- but dont worry, Im not a total noob! Im a mod over at toyota nation and I have been modding a gen 3 camry for a while now. I was in the process of a manual swap, but speed source tells me the car and motor arent in the best of shape, so i had to abort all of my plans. I think it will be easiest to sell my mods and start with a fresh platform...

Of course, the platform I am considering is the gen 1 solara! I want a step up from the 5sfe, so I will go with the 1mz and a 5 speed and start with what I really want. Im not positive yet, but here is the car Im currently considering:

LINK TO AUTOTRADER LISTING

so i dont know what the purpose of this really is, other than to tell you guys I may be around a lot more now :) let me know what you think of the idea, thanks guys!

you don't need to own a Solara to be a Solaraguy, but I guess it helps.

I am a big fan of the Gen1, but if you have seen what some of the members here have done to their Gen 2's, you might want to get a Gen 2 instead. Goodluck and welcome to SG.

Yeah no worries; you can be just a fan who drives a Pinto and we'll still respect you... But not necessarily the Pinto  . In fact, there are plenty of Camry-only owners on our website, but don't forget that the Solara is the 2-door brother and the successor of the Camry.

that solara has the front grill repainted. I'd check more to see if there was any more front end collission....Stuff like that bothers me when buying car (unless it was owned by a tuner..then i say it was abused...LOL). I was a SG before i got my solara....

no more swap hell for me  I want something with decent power that will be reliable and boost friendly maybe down the road :) its cool having the trd stuff available for the solara, even if it is rather rare...

I noticed the grille too, thanks for pointing that out. I will run a carfax and see what they say when I go down to see it this week. I also noticed they are askingg 8900 for it, which according to blue book is pretty damn high! Ill have to see if I can get them to come down on that.

I have to research what will fit from my camry, which Im guessing isnt much. I have to look into the whiteline rear bar I have fitting but Im not sure if it will. I need to see what maintenance the car will be due for as well with 80k on the clock, then work from there.

Is there anyone that could possibly run a carfax on this for me? Ill look around for a free one, if not I will just pay for it. Sorry to be a solara noob, I hate dealing with camry noobs over on the nation and Ill do everything to make my stay one that isnt annoying :)

Wassup Damon!

I see you are a fellow Michigander. What part of the state are you in? I didn't make the connection till I saw you were looking at a car in Kalamazoo.

Good luck if you make the purchase. The Gen1 looks great. V6, 5sp ... oohh yea!

Anyway, I missed saying welcome on your 1st intro post. You're welcome here regardless if you have a Solara. Camrys need proper representation as well and your's in lookin' pretty tight.

Holy crap, I'm in Ypsi (obviously.) Area of 23 and 94. I can't believe I haven't seen your car around. If you see a silver RX8 on gunmetal Enkeis, I'm the only one in the area.

PM me a link with their website or just hit me up sometime.

well i am test driving the car saturday. I guess the guy that owned it painted the grille white and shaved the emblems :( so that kind of sucks. That makes me nervous that he beat up on it but we shall see. They said he had an aftermarket exhaust on it but they removed it and made it stock, so that worries me as well. Ill let everyone know how it goes!

Don't rely on carfax, use your eyeballs. CarFax will only have change in title information. ppl always think that any police report will be on there but it just ain't so.
