did you try a new bulb?

Ok I hate to say this but you didnt explicitly say that it is...

So without further ado...is the dome light switch set to "door"?

are both doors like that or is it just the driver's door that doesn't turn the dome light on?

if the passenger door turns on the dome light when opened, then you probably have a bad pinswitch on your driver's door side. WD-40 it a little (the pinswitch) and push it in and release a couple of times.

the pinswitch is on the body of the car

see if the button on the door is working right (in the door jam). You should be able to push it in and it shoudl push out. see if thats broken or not.

What others stated here. But just to add to them:

Remove the black rubber thingie. Spray wd40 or lubrication of any sort. And then push in and out to lube it. This method worked on my ES doors.

this is the exact problem I am having. I can't figure it out. Unless there is some weird double-tap thing you can do with the remote key, because that is when it all happened - when I was unlocking the door - I have no idea what is going on.

It must be the light buld - which looks fine, but I took a voltage reading across the terminals with the lightbulb out and the door open and got the 12v. So, I know it is getting power.
