Making a Cold Air Intake out of ABS Pipe?

Making a Cold Air Intake out of ABS Pipe?

Well, why not? There is a website that illustrates how to make small horsepower gains for cheap. On the site the host suggests making a cold air intake from abs pipe rather than spending mega dollars on an aftermarket product. I believe that ABS has fairly good heat resistance, and can be shaped (with couplers) for most applications. All that's left is to affix a conical filter to the intake end.

Sounds good to me. How does it sound to everyone else?

I know that Pep Boyz has chrome-plated ABS CAI pieces you can buy (both 2-1/2 and 3" dia) - actually considered it at one point...

Been there done that works with mixed results are you V6 or I4? If I4 you have no MAF so just ebay an intake with a decent Filter. If V6 you should get an injen because you need the 2.75 inch piping for the maf or save and get the CPE if you want a real power gain.

I do have the V6, so from what you describe, doubt I'm going to be able to get ABS pipe in that diameter. I have an Injen on order. Should be here anytime.

why not the CP-e with the tunable module ?? Since you may modify the exhaust line...it would be interesting to re-tune the AFR with it.

Just curious

LOL - I had to pick on 'ya. You do more marketing for CP-e than they do.

(Nothing wrong with supporting a product you believe in.)

To make the injen a CAI all you need is some 2.75 in pipe with a 90 degree bend and a straight SO look for a cheap cai on ebay with a 90 in it.

Sebas - have you heard of anyone converting a CP-e SRI into a CAI yet? I assume some returning would be in order, would it not?

I was about to make it my 2007 summer project back last August...now I don't know if I'll do it. I have plenty of other mods to do, quite simple tho...but anyway, I concluded that the only good way to do it was to put the battery in the trunk and go take the air in the front bumper on the driver side (there is a big hole there were the air flow seems to be high !!)

Sorry but what you mean on this one ??
