anyone done this to their TRD lip kit?

anyone done this to their TRD lip kit?

Postby funboy102 » Thu Mar 15, 2007 12:00 am

I was at school today, and while I was in the parking lot, I saw this GEN 1 Solara, with a TRD lip kit. No biggie there right? But then I noticed he did something that i've never really noticed before here on the forum (maybe cuz I've never seen close up shots). This guy (actually, the body shop), use bondo and paint, (and probably a lot of time), to form fit the lip kit into the bumper of the car. This basically makes the lip kit look like it was originally part of the bumper. I thought it looked VERY clean. Just wondering anyone else done this to their lip kit, and if not, why not?

Front shot from far

Close up of shot of passenger side, notice how it looks like it's actually part of the bumper, not just attached on,

Rear shot

Rear driver side... The paint drips look kinda un-professional, but maybe they're not done yet? But the main point is still... look how it's molded onto the bumper.

What's your guy's thoughts?

I think there was someone that's done this.

I actually like it un-molded, to be honest.

They probably molded the ebay kit that used to sell a couple years ago.

I think Astro was the first one to do that, could be wrong though. I noticed a lot of paint drip marks on his rear bumper, or is that just condensation?

unmolded isbetter imho
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

I've seen that car before here at SG, its not something new - its been here for a while. The paint drips and that fact its been a while makes me say...its not a work in progress..its bad work!

i think it messes with the clean lines of the car to mold it- looks a bit ricier as a one piece IMO

I prefer unmolded also...

I have seen a silver Gen1 around my area that has a molded TRD kit also. It is a different look, but ultimately I still prefer the look of the TRD sitting on the bumper.

It looks like crap.... DId you at least put a solaraguy.org note on that persons car?

I think it looks horrible because it takes away the curves and define the kit is suppose to give.
