keeps both wheels spinning unlike cars that dont have it, where the power is switched to the wheel that can spin the best, the trd tacomas have posi trac with the rear differential lock, its pretty nice feature, my dad has it on his, anyways it will keep both wheels spinning instead of one just spinning while the other does nothing.........

I've got the Quaife LSD, myself. An LSD is nice when you have a supercharger because it keeps you from getting a bunch of torque steer. That seems to be one of the problems with the new Maxima.

Yes thats a huge problem with the maxima.

Posi is traditionally found on RWD muscle cars

Depends on the configuration. IS300's 5spd e-shift models have the factory Torsen LSD option available.

posi uses a bunch of mini-clutch thingys to make both wheels spin as much as possible, but still give when taking a turn so steering isn't wierd and almost impossilbe. between LSD and posi, doesn anyone know which is reguarded as better for putting the power to the ground? I saw TRD makes an LSD, where can you get posi? Also, the prelude SH had a crazy diff. which sent the power to the outside wheel around turns, anyone know where to get any cool stuff like that? 8)

ATTS i think it was called
i dont think it'd be possible (or at least itll be pretty damn hard) to add in a system that complex if it doesnt come so equipped from the factory

Ok, I have a 2002 se v6 5spd, and I THOUGHT it had an open diff.. Does anyone know different? Because I spun both tires all the way through first gear when I tested it. (It clearly left 2 solid lines of rubber) 8)

i have a 2k 5spd and i also leave two lines ... which turn into dashes( damn wheel hop) but still mainatin equal thickness. eitherway i knew the lsd for our car was expensive and i wouldnt think i have one ... it doesnt seem like it was raced before i bought it... check this out tho.

First, Solaras don't come from the factory with a limited slip differential. If the car was purchased with an aftermarket lsd, I've got to think that the person who sold the car would have mentioned it in an attempt to get a higher price. Second, leaving two lines of rubber doesn't necessarily mean that you have limited slip. I don't think a limited slip differential is going to help much when both wheels lose traction, so they'll each leave rubber. The LSD is designed to send power to the wheel that still has traction if the other one loses it. It's really more helpful in hard cornering, although it can reduce torque steer on hard launches.

From what I've seen, an open diff will never leave 2 solid lines of rubber, they will usually leave one, and if the surface youre burning out on is very consistent, it will kinda switch off between both wheels. Also I bought the car new.

What you say sounds reasonable, but since I've never heard of a Solara with a stock lsd, it would seem that open diffs can leave two solid lines of rubber.
