Hello there, first time Solara owner here

I've been putting off doing the intro since things keep coming up (work, life, etc.) so thanks to MCOjerry for reminding me.

So, about myself... I'm a 23 year old UCF graduate (BS in Information Systems Technology) now living in Melbourne, Florida. I'm hearing-impaired and work at CompUSA as a technician. I've had three vehicles, the first one being a POS Chevy S10 pickup, second a 2000 Nissan Altima which was totaled on December 5th, 2006 because some fool decided to park their car right in front of me on I-4. On January 5th, 2007 I bought the Solara. When I first saw her online, I immediately fell in love with her as I've always wanted a convertible.

I chose the Solara because it has an excellent balance of good looks, reliability, affordability and, of course, the Fahrvergnugen factor. The V6 is so nice to drive, it feels like I'm driving a luxury vehicle. I'm not into mods or anything like that, I mainly hang out here to see what others say about their Solaras in terms of reliability, general maintenance and the warm community feeling. :)

So there you have it. :)

Nice. :) I actually made up a sign for "Solara" - it's a modification of the sign for "sun" which makes sense considering the origin of the name.

Here's your official Image

I am so totally there with you on the I4 thing! I used ot have a Saturn L200, and I was driving to work one day and on I4 around Ivnahoe and all the traffic in front of me stopped. Good thing I was paying attention...bad that the three cars behind me weren't. I was hit by three cars and pushed into the car in front of me...Saturn sandwich

That was my first experience with State Farm...had to get the car fixed ASAP and couldn't wait for 5 insurance companies to fight it out (mine, plus the three behind me and one in front of me). State farm piad for all but my $500 deductible and my rates never increased. About a year and half leter, i rec'd a $500 check from State Farm. They finally finished their fight and I got my deductible back!

Anyway...welcome :D

Ouch! In my case, I swerved to avoid the car (after making sure there was nobody in the lane to the left of me, which is a rare occurrence!) but my brakes locked up and I kept skidding and ended up smacking into the median wall face-first. I must have hit it at like 25mph but the airbags didn't deploy. After that I made damn sure to get a car with ABS. A cop saw it and ticketed the driver of the car that stopped in front of me, but insurance completely ignored the police report and decided to blame me for it. Premiums went up quite a bit. This was on I-4 WB just before Orange Blossom Trail, past Kaley Ave.

I couldn't get the info of the other driver because I never hit him so he wasn't included in the report. :-/ Oh well, what's past is past.

Thanks for your kind welcome, everybody! I'm glad to be here. 8)

whoooppee!!!

Postby aleki2424 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 10:32 pm

yeah. if it helps, just a wek ago, some inner circle (toyota factory) dude was saying how the convertible is built like a tank, so rest assured.. hehehe :drinking:
yeah, i had one o' those sometime back , and the airbags didnt deploy too. turns out the sensors are very velocity specific and it also depends on what the nature of impact is. but then they could also be defective. what the heck, u were ok sooo ...... ok?
