Thanks

I have dats Y pipe 2.5 in piping a highflow cat with glasspack resonator and a TRD muffler. It sounds great esp after the glasspack broke in nice.

That is because you are running a cat on your Y pipe ditch that or get highflow and it will be much louder

Wow, Midias that is exactly what I want.

I think Im going to take Turbo's advice and find another exhaust. If I get a Greddy Evo2 will that pretty much take care of the job?

It would probably be cheaper to have an exhaust shop add 2.5 in piping the solara is really easy to plumb. Also I can show you where I got my resonator only 20 bucks shipped and after it breaks in it sounds great.

How much would it cost do you think? And is the resonator a easy bolt on like the muffler or would I have to get that and have them weld it to the 2.5" piping?

I am not sure about cost (probably between 100-200) but it is very easy just 1 90 degree bend 1 flange and a small s kink in the piping. If a shop is making it all up they will probably weld in a resonator rather than clamp it but if you want to do it your self some exhaust clamps and the right size pipe would work fine. Same goes for replacing your resonator with a straight pipe but I would not recommended it it would probably be too loud at cruising speeds. I made mine my self in a few hrs with just a flux welded and no experience.

Do you have any pics of your exhaust? And can you give me some more info on the glass packs. Like what kind you have or any other good ones. Thanks Chris

This thread is killing me.

Solorange, before you do anything, PM me on your situation and I'll help walk you through it. I don't want to see you waste money on another muffler when it won't change your situation.

Agree^

I wouldn't get rid of your TRD exhaust just yet. You have a good quality exhaust already in hand. Sounds like its still breaking in for you. I had a DF Flowmaster 40 series on my Grand Cherokee 5.2L V8 & it took a few hundred miles to break in to its full sound potential.

I wouldn't remove the resonator. That's basically a mini muffler that cancels out high pitch frequencies before it runs through your actual exhaust system. Removing it my result in some back fire & some what of a sh!tty sound.

Headers & the "Y" pipe will give you some performance & some extra roar that your looking for but I would wait before going that route since it cost $$$.

Piping is something you shouldn't change too much unless your running some major power under the hood. Increasing the piping from your stock size to a quarter inch larger would be the most I would go on a stock set up. Increasing it by .25 should create a deeper sound but any larger than that & your gonna lose low end torque.

Do have or plan on getting a intake system? That will also help a little bit with your exhaust sound as well.

^^

The same happned after my custom exhaust I had to wait for the resonator to break in. Also same with my brothers Jimmy I installed a Dynomax straight through and it took a few hundred to break in.

I will dig around and get some pics out of the archives they are not the best and I have sense fixed the crooked exhaust but it was fairly good for my first attempt.

I think you misunderstood me. Im not talking about getting rid of the muffler now. I was just talking about putting in a glasspak resonator like midas did. I dont have plans on increasing the diameter of the piping. I just want to switch resonators. But I was trying to find out what kind midas got and how he installed it since he did it himself.

ClassySolaraGuy - Will installing an intake make it so I can hear the exhaust note a lot better in the cabin of my car? I really had no intentions of doing this just because I only see it as a power mod and again for this car I dont care about making more power. Also just for my own info, Does the Greddy catback piping between the cat and the muffler the same diameter as the stock solara's or is that a .25in bigger?

I have had experience with modding exhausts before. I had Flowmaster 40 series for my camaro and it took some time to break in too. And Im noticing that mine is starting to break in. I just want to enjoy hearing the nice sound the exhaust puts out better. Pretty much bring up the volume to the level my camaro (V6) was at. I know there is a difference between how each car sounds. The camaro obviously rumbles more because its a pushrod and has more stroke as oppose to the solara which is a dual over head cam.

ok... I understand what you are looking for.. but you have to realize one thing.. Toyota has gone out of its way in making all of their cars to be as quiet as possible... My 05 has a custom exhaust and it has a throaty sound at lower RPMs... but if you are looking for the similar sound you had with you Camero re piping and changing out your y pipe may help with what you are looking to accomplish.. and getting an intake will do both increase performance and sound... sadly your Solara will never sound as throaty as your Camero did.. but Kudos to you for not wanting a "ricey" exhaust sound for your ride 8)
