HID problem

HID problem

Postby woa_its_j3ff » Sat Apr 14, 2007 9:50 pm

so i had my HIDs in for about a week. got 6 months parts warranty on it.
Issue is:
for a week til now i've had them in worked fine today until i was out with colara club buddies and one of them noticed that my passenger side HID had turned off. so he asked if my DRLS were disabled (yes) and if my daytime/night sensor that has my lights turn on when dark was disabled (no). so he said i should do that, so i did.
then afterwards i popped the hood and he said it could be the ballast, and i wiggled some of the wires around a bit figuring it's a loose connection, then voila a few minutes later it turned on again after i restarted the car.

later while driving (around 15 minutes later) it turned off again (remember it's ONLY the passenger side), then about 10 minutes later again, it turned back on.... while i was driving, and it stayed on the entire rest of the 45 minute ride home.

again I am curious as to what may be the issue since these HIDs are brand new and paid about roughly 200 or so for them. (regular price runs around 300s).

the hid on the PASSENGER SIDE did flicker a few times prior to this incident. so i do not know if it's the ballast, ignitor or what...

-- note. HIDS are installed professionally at shop so i don't know much about HIDs that's why. any info is appreciated again. thanks.

Sounds like 1) The ballast is not mounted correctly, and possibly when you're driving, it's grounding itself, and then moving aound, and then not grounding itself again. So maybe that's why it's turning on and off. or 2) Maybe the connection are just lose? That would explain why it's sometimes on, sometimes off...
But then again, you DID say they were PROFESSIONALY installed, so I don't think it's any of those case.

(haha, for the record Jeff, I didn't know it take a professional to just install HID... they DO say it's PLUG and PLAY right?)

I dunno, do other people have more suggestions?

THAT DEF sounds like a wiring problem/ballast problem it explains while driving why its going out and why your friend got it turn on by messing with the wires.

the ballast on passenger side is mounted pretty securly so.. (on the opening right behind the windshield wiper fluid)...

later on when it turned off the second time i was messing with the connections and it never turned back on. some of the corolla guys said i have to cycle my switch by like turnin off headlights then back on. maybe the ignitor would restart the HID again.. so to speak?
