hey guys i just saw this and it really caught my attention... just being curious is it really that hard to swap the solara tranny?? i looked around on search also but i couldnt find anything... i know you'll have to get a rebuilt one never a used one and a syncros, tranny, clutch master and all that... i also heard its dangerous or something but... what if you guys were going to swap a i4 tranny to manual could you use the v6 tranny??

I believe they both use the e153 tranny.

lol...the supra doesn't use the e153...hahah....

but back on topic...

If you want to do it the ghetto way with an older tranny and stock clutch, flywheel (resurfaced), then you can do the swap for low 1K for sure. presuming you do the labor yourself.

if you want to go performance components, the clutch and flywheel will cost you close to 1K itself (I'm talking canadian dollars on this one)

ReaDY-SeT-Go mentioned swapping the I4 with V6 tranny. Last time I checked, Supras have an I6 engine, so I assumed he was talking about V6 Solara.

Someone on the boards have swapped their I4 auto to a manual, but I'm not sure which tranny they used.

on the supra boards, or on the solara boards?

the solara and camry can both use the s54 or the or the e153. the i4 can use both, while the v6 can also use both, but it's not recommended as it wasn't designed to hold that much torque for too long (otherwise they wouldn't have designed the e153 for the v6). as well, the gearing on the s54 is shorter

e153

Postby 2az-KRN » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:26 pm

is the e153 out of tC as well??

I'm just curious if I can take a stock tC manual tranny from junk yard and swap it into my 2Az...

Also, why are we talking about putting supra tranny into solara?

Look, Supra is RWD, and Solara is FWD. tranny for RWD will never be able to fit into FWD.

Honestly just buy a darn solara with a manual tranny if it does come with them.. Why put all the time when you can sell your car and buy another one the way you want.. If you say because of your parents then I doubt they going to enjoy it when you spend money to convert the car.. Just sell your dam car. Saves time and easier.

the only cars that use the e153 is the solara, camry and the mr2 turbo

and lots of people with camrys have done it.

as well, I agree with Dats...unless you've already done a lot to your car, it's easier to just pick up a solara w/ a 5spd.

I'm swapping only because my car never came with a 5spd. and the s/c wasn't made for it either...it's good to be unique :p

so how would you go about to get everything done?? is it pick up a new e153 tranny and take it to a reliable shop and just be like "hey can i get this swapped in" or if you go to a shop you can ask them to do it and they'll just bill you?? cause i was thinking about asking my cousin to get it done for me and i was just gonna supply him with the parts but im just not sure... what i'll need... is there a list or anything?

ballpark figure of what you'll need

1. the tranny- duh..
2. clutch pedal, etc..
3. clutch line
4. slave cylinder
5. new ecu from a manual solara

i am sure there are other things just can't remember them right now..

also you might wanna get new flywheels, clutch, synchros, and gears.

^?? new synchros/gears?? if you're going to rebuild the tranny while you're at it, then sure

also a master cylinder and shifter cables

no need for an ecu- all you have to do is trick the auto ecu

otherwise, that's about it....and if the tranny doesn't come with mounts, then a manual tranny mount as well

Shifter, shift cables, master cyl, slave cyl, manual v6 axles, flywheel, clutch, e153 tranny from 99-02 solara, tranny mount (you also need a bracket for the tranny mount), pedal assembly, (also try to get a manual ECU for the car so you will not get a CEL, I got mine for 100 bucks or trick it like King said, but now I am back to having a auto ecu and had to make a resistor box with the new engine wire harness, lol), pedal assembly. That is all I can think of for now.

Man I have posted this like 100 times now...... lol
