Some of them do actually work although this one looks too cheesy to be legit.

Check out the escort ZR3.

Basically, a laser shifter temporary redirects the laser signal to the ground. After 5 seconds or by pressing the mute button (depending on the unit), laser signals will no longer be redirected.

That blinder one you just showed is wayy too obvious. If it doesn't stop working after a certain time like other brands, then the cop will just call on to another one saying that he can't get a reading from you because the signal is jammed. You will then get a massive ticket for having an illegal jammer in your car :).

That's just going by my opinion. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that's why they stop working after 5 secs :). Normal ones let you know you're being flagged, give you a few seconds to slow down, and then turn off for a little bit.

RDKamikaze you are correct about the logic, but there is a little more to it. A laser "shifter" isn't illegal, but escort had enough foresight to realize that cops would get real pissed off if they couldn't ever get a reading on your car. Therefore, you can shut the shifter off and they can check your speed. Since laser shoots such a small beam, the cop must make sure that they hit the license plate or headlights. When a cop doesn't get a reading, they'll most likely assume that they missed the headlight or license plate, and retry.

FYI: Anything that actively sends out a signal to disrupt laser / radar aka an "active jammer." The ZR3 is legal because its "passive" - it only redirects the original signal to the ground; it does not send out any other signals.

That's why I sand down and beat the crap out of the front plate with a hammer to decrease the reflectivity :evilbat:.
