trunk won't stay open

trunk won't stay open

my trunk door was always a little loose. it would just close by itself if hit by a breeze.

i was kinda getting pissed off, so i looked at the hinges. there doesn't appear to be a spring. is that normal? what do your trunks look like?

can i install some kind of spring to make the trunk stiffer? so it won't close on my back when i'm reaching in!?

do you have a spoiler on your car?
if so, did the spoiler come with it from the factory?
i'm thinking that if a spoiler was installed after it left the factory, the torsion beams (which run from one side of the trunk lid to the other) weren't installed. which would make the trunk lid seem too heavy.

i got my car used :-?

so i don't really know if it's a factory spoiler or not. i do see some black glue or something that was used to mount the spoiler. does that tell you anything? it seems just like a factory one, b/c the brake lights are on and stuff.

so you're saying that there are not springs? just torsion beams? i see beams that go across the width of the trunk, connected to the hinges. are those what you're talking about?

I have been thinking about installing a spring or something that could open up the trunk fully when I open it remotely. It kinda sucks when I'm carrying a bunch of stuff and that I use the remote trunk release in hopes the I wouldn't have to open the trunk by my hand/arm but end up opening it like a normal door.

Those beams are useless unless the door is opened halfway.

I have the same problem. I had my whole trunk replaced (Stupid me backed into a mailbox  ) and I also had my spoiler put on all at the same time, and now my trunk doesnt stay open unless I open it all the way. It used to stay open no matter where it was, kinda like the hood of our car. Would this be because of the spoiler or when the new trunk was put on, could something have been altered?

it wont stay open unless its almost all the way open
(and the hood only opens all the way)

i'm going to install hydraulics. yeah, it really sucks that my trunk won't open on its own.

i guess my question was whether everyone's did this or just mine. i'm kind of relieved that i'm not the only one with this problem.
