going to run 5.5psi boost, is there anything i should know?

Instead of the stock 4 psi boost from the TRD S|C im going to replace that with a 5.5psi pulley.

I know it would be best to do Jim's Fuel Mod when boosting high, i will do that but is there anything else i should look into? i will be putting in Iridium NGK spark plugs, but cant think of anything else i would need to make it run well. Of course i will also have a SAFC II.

Any good help/input is greatly appreciated. :D

dude, remember what we talked about last night? I dont want to offend you, but personally I wouldnt try to get too ahead of yourself. You dont even have the unit yet, I would want to make sure everything is running alright with the stock 4 psi before I up the boost..

Im no expert on this, but I dont think the safc really comes into play until you have fuel mods (i.e. fuel pump, injectors, etc.) but I could be very wrong. Im sure it wouldnt hurt to have it without those, but it may save you some money.

The other thing I would be concerned about is my suspension, tires, and braking setup. Youre no doubt doing this to go fast- personally, I would want a nice set of tires, some lowering springs and performance struts, a rear sway bar, and AT LEAST upgraded brake pads... It is easy to skimp on these things and go right for boost, but that could end up being a costly mistake...

Again, Im no expert on this, Im sure the boosted guys will chime in, but I would want to know everything on my car is upgraded and in perfect shape before I go boosting, let alone at a higher psi...

If my plans go as scheduled and the S|C is in by then, then sure why not!

I'd agree with Solara on Bronze....once you get it installed, run the stock boost on there for a while (maybe a couple of months) so the car gets used to it. I had my stock boost on there before upgrading to 6lbs for almost a year I think (been awhile).

In terms of what your thinking of getting: Jim's Fuel Rail Mod, SAFC-II (since you already have it, I take it?), and colder spark plugs, definitely do it.

In terms of bigger fuel pump/injectors/blah, blah, blah, it varies in who you talk to. Jim@FA is using his stock injectors. I've got both bigger injectors and bigger pump. personally, I think the pump is a necessity if your going to upgrade, injectors you can skip/wait based on people's experiences.

get the 4psi going first, make sure there are no problems, and then think about going higher

and you can do the 5.5 without any mods (in my opinion), but then just don't be surprised when you blow your knock sensors, and then later shoot a piston through your hood

get colder sparkplugs and do all your fuel mods- the injectors are debatable, but you'll find out

it's not too hard to tear things apart and install injectors if needed later on though, so not a prob

as for brakes, etc. that's something that's up to you...just cuz you can get up to speed faster doesn't mean that you'll feel comfotable going faster anyway

We'll see tho. thanx for everyone's reply.

I guess I'd agree with the rest. I already blew a knock sensor running 4 psi and safc, etc. But then again, i blew it slicked down for some reason and my boost gauge line blew off as well at that race.

^^^car goes into "safe" mode. It won't really pull very hard, CEL will come on. It's basically sensing the "ping" or "knocking" of the engine. If it goes above a certain decible or whatever, the sensor is tripped, code is sent to the computer, to your dashboard, and car goes into "safe" mode. Plenty of discussion about this too in the forced induction section.

to add to your comment about the general census of the board to not boost to 5.5lbs. - I disagree. I'm at 6lbs. and still running fine, as are other members at 5.5 or 6. Of course, we've all had our hick-ups, i.e. blown knock sensors, but then again, you might blow it when you boost at 4lbs, like some have done. Take people's experience with a grain of salt, so to speak.
