If I decide to keep my Solara for awhile, I will be getting Jim's heads, too. I have exchanged a lot of e-mails with him about the subject. I think he said the compression ratio with the heads is about 9.4:1. I haven't heard anything about him developing headers, although I think he mentioned that he had seen an advertisement for $500 headers.

Ya, the advertisement for the 500$ headers, that's what eric told me about.
I was also thinking of buying a new car, but i have to wait untill I owe less.
I put 10,000. down on my car, so i have to try and get that back when i trade it in, if I trade it in.
I really like the new G35 sport coupe, or maybe the new mazda RX-8( I think that's the name)
Well that's a dream world, Can't get

What other info have you gleaned from Jim about the heads?

The G35 coupe is what I would like to get, as well. I bought the sedan version for my wife, and I love the balance and handling in that car. The coupe version would provide more power, better looks, and even better handling. My Solara is great, with all the upgrades I've done to it. As a front wheel drive car, though, there are limitations. I never realized how front-heavy my Solara felt until I started driving the G35. I'll probably have to wait for a year or so, due to other financial obligations. By that time, I'll probably want something else, like the new Audi S4!

According to Jim, the better flow of these heads provides greater power, even without increasing boost. Obviously, the biggest benefit is the reduced compression, which allows you to run higher boost. Jim says that up to 7.5 psi would be OK, although he recommends 7. I asked him if the heads increased engine noise, and he said that they would not. He feels tha the heads allow the engine and supercharger to work more efficiently, so his gas mileage is better. It would seem that the only downside is the added expense of purchase and installation.

Did Jim ever say what the install time was? Well I know that eric just got his set, so maybe he'll post the install time. Or I could just call him and ask him my self.

In one of his messages to me, he said that he figures on 10 hours for installation time. I am planning to drive up to Portland to have him do the work for me. The heads are warrantied for 1 year, and Jim gives a lifetime warranty on his installation. Given his work with this platform, I feel I'm really getting a good deal to have him do the work.

Let us know how it all works out. Any idea on timing for the install?

By timing I meant the date you think you might get it installed.

JIC it wasn't clear.

I just sent him a check for a deposit so he could get the order into his fabricator. I'm hoping that the heads will be ready in 3-4 weeks, maximum, and I'll have the installation done as soon as I can after that. I'm hoping that I'll have them on my car before the end of June. I'll keep you posted.

Geeze, you're gonna have to take me for a test drive to see if I can sway my decision on selling mine and keeping it for a while.

I really wish that I lived in Cal. The cars, the Food, the weather, What else would you want.
Cdssolara I can't remember if you have a auto or stick? Could you please dyno before and after the install.
I hope everthing goes as planned.

I had my car dynoed last year after going to the 5 psi pulley and getting the S-AFC. I got just under 248 fwhp and 236 lb/ft. That's with a RMM intake (probably useless) and an Apex'i WS exhaust. I have a 5 speed, by the way. Since then, I've added a light flywheel, along with upgraded clutch and lsd. I realize that the drivetrain upgrades won't do anything to by hp at the flywheel, but I'm hoping that it will result in less drivetrain power loss to the wheels. Jim@Foreign Affairs has told me about a good dyno shop in Portland, so I'll have it done while I'm up there. I may also go to a 7 psi pulley, since the compression is being reduced so substantially. I may also have him build me a CAI like the one he has on his car. I will definitely post the results.

You know you're always welcome to drive my car, Ryan! I have been thinking long and hard about selling my Solara and getting a G35 coupe, after having bought the G35 sedan for my wife. I really want a rwd for my car. However, after thinking about the money I've already spend on this car, the new baby, and our need to buy a bigger house than the one we have now, I decided that it would be smarter to just hang on to the Solara for awhile longer. Maybe in 18-24 months I'll look at the new S4! When I do decide to sell my Solara, someone will definitely be getting a good car, assuming they want all my upgrades.

I finaly got my knock sensors replaced. I ended up paying $310 for 2 knock sensors and $400 for the labor plus another $90 for intake manifold gaskets. After all of that my car actually runs much better than before even though it was not that noticable and I was rarely getting the CEL. My gas milage has gone up and my car seems to have more power than before, it drives like it is brand new. Looking back $800 was not worth the extra horse power that I was trying to get by putting on a smaller pulley without a SAFC. I have lost track of how much money this whole thing has cost me between the pulley the SAFC and instalation and the money I just spent I think that I am goning to leave the stock pulley on and be happy. Beyond the CAI from XERD I think my engine mods are done, Im not sure that the headers will be worth the hassle. I will have to wait and see how much everyone else likes them. Well just wanted to let everyone know how it all turned out.
