Dyno- Day

Dyno- Day

Postby chef solara » Thu May 29, 2003 1:43 pm

Well, I just got home from the dyno!
First run 3:04PM, 59.8% Humity -HP 206.9 Tor 193.9
Second-3:11PM, 60.5%Humity-HP 197.9 Tor 192.8
Third- 3:17PM, 60.1% Humity-HP 189.9 Tor 191.7

What should the air/fuel ratio % be at through the whole power band?
I thought that it should be at 12 to 12.5. Right?
I have a S/C W/6PSI, Stock intake, S-AFC, Greaddy.
My last Dyno I dynoed at 212HP, And I was running to lean, around 13%
That was about 2 months ago. And because of that I am having problems w/ my knock senser. The CEL keeps going on and off.
Could someone please write back w/ info. thanks

yea I got the same issues with the CEL going on and then off. My car hit 200hp and 210ft/lb, with the 5.5 psi pulley, injen intake, and greddy evo. I am sticking with the stock pulley and changing my knock sensors. The SLE is just not made for high HP, I'm done trying to make my car go any faster. The auto tranny is made for a smooth ride not big dyno numbers.

Ya, I was dyno-tuning the car.
And everytime I adjusted the air/fuel curve, it made my HP lower. In the end my air/fuel was between 12 to 12.5% Except for the lower RPM, AT 3500RPM it was 15.0
3600RPM it was 15.2
3700RPM it was 14.4
3800RPM it was 13.1
3900RPM it was 13.0
4000RPM it was 12.9
4100 - 4200 it was 12.7
4300 it was 12.4
SO I dont know what to do!. I really wish that jim would get some number for us to give me some hope. How do I retard the timing?

You don't want to retard the timing, you want to advance it, but that can only be done with hi-tes fuel. You'll probally need 93 octane(if you don't allready use it) for best results

We had someone post on one of these forums(sg or cm) with a verified 230+ fwhp with an auto transmission.

Needless to say, I was impressed.

Ya, I do use 93 octane, and some times I mix it with 100%. My CEL was on the whole time I was on the on dyno would that have anything to do with it?
Sometimes I think that putting more money into a SLE is just a total waste of money, Maybe just give up and trade it in!

Apparently a stock V6 auto will dyno at about 150 HP. The S/C with 6 PSI pulley and cat back should give you about 40% more power, which would be 210 HP. So you are not far off. As the engine heats up the power will drop.

That being said, Jim@FA claimed 260 HP with an auto. His other mods were Y pipe, S-AFC, and some fuel system mods.

Ya, I have fuel upgrades, I have a high flow fuel pump from EL prototypes.
It was a very hot day the temp on my last run was 87.4degrees. It's South FL. what can I expect?
Talking about the trany, I called Level 10 and they quoted me somewhere around 3,000. for one of their high performance trany. So maybe that's the way to go, if I want to pour more money into my car.
The only problem that I run into is that , I really work hard for every pennie that I have and to pour it into a car that will never be worth the money that I put into it.
2001 SLE Fulley loaded, Excellent cond. Trade in value 15,000! I paid 26,000. for my car, and in just two years it drops 10,000. WHAT THE @$%
I thought that toyota's keep their value, that's why I bought a toyota.
How about a trany swap, auto to manual. How much 3,000? Not worth it right, just find a manual and swap all my upgrades. and start all over on my payment with a car that is going to have a hell of a lot more miles.
I only have 23,000 miles on the car which isn't much, compared to some people.
Sorry I just went off!, I'll try and control myself better next time.
any feed back is very welcome. Thanks

Chef Solara,

I know what you mean. I have dumped a lot of money into my Solara, too. Last fall, I had a new clutch, lsd, and lightened flywheel put into my 5 speed 01 SEV6. That was on top of a supercharger with a 5.5 psi pulley and a bunch of suspension upgades, not to mention wheels and tires. If I decide to sell this car, I won't come close to getting my investment back. I have come to the conclusion that I will never do expensive modifications to a car unless it was already designed to be a performance car. Trying to change the basic personality of a car such as this is just not worth the money you invest. That being said, I've learned a lot, as this is the first time I've done something like this. I like my car, but I realize that it has a lot of limits.
