heres the storey . . i just got a short shifter so i took it to toyota to install . . they said they installed and but removed it becasue it "rubbed on the floor board so you couldnt shift it," then they chared me 160$ . . . i left with 160 poorer and no shifter . . hen next day i took it to a local speed shop and they said they coundt install it because the kit had a missing" speed clip". . . . what should i do? are the people at toyota incompatent or should i try to send back the shifter?

Yes it is true that the shifter rubs on the floor, that is why the INSTRUCTIONS say to cut away at the padding on the floor. I had to cut mine all the way back to the bare floor pan (it's no big deal). It's really easy to install by yourself. If you get stuck during the install just run down to the local library and look in the service manual. Make sure you match up the parts you have with the parts listed on the instructions to make sure you don’t have any missing. A missing clip should be easy to replace from a hardware store

I had to cut out the carpet/noise deadening material below the shifter because it interfered slightly. It even says you may need to do that in the instructions.

The stealership probably lost the speed clip when they installed and then uninstalled it. That little thing is a bitch to put on and take off. When I took the original speed clip off, it went flying and I lost it. Of course that didn't matter because the short shifter kit comes with one.

Sounds like the stealer screwed you. I would make them get you another speed clip and install it for free.

i jus let my short shifter rub the floor board. i jus greased up the bottom. if the speed clip is the thing im thinking about i loser mine too. it seemed to be a one way clip which i practically broke taking it off. when i tried to install it i dropped it down somewhere under the carpet. so as of now i dont' really have a clip on it and i've been driving wit it for awhile now. i jus went to lowe's and threw on some mickey mouse clip.

you should try and go to the dealer again. tell them its a freakin trd part and that they should know how to install it. if u live in so cal i can help u out. make that dealer give u a new clip and have them install it. they freakin charged u more for labor that they didn't finish than what the actually short shifter costs!!!

did you give them the instructions when you had the dealer install it?

go back there and have them install it correctly, at no extra charge. for $160, they charged you 2 hours of labor. any competant toyota tech can do it in half the time and have it installed properly.
