car bra

in august im starting school about 2 hours away from home, and will be commuting back and forth every couple of weekends. i just had my bumper and hood repainted, so they are now completely spotless, and i would like to keep them from getting damaged by rock chips and stuff at least whiel driving back and forth on the weekends. do you think a simple leather/vinyl car bra would do the trick? i found one on ebay for 49.99 that's vinyl. i know they can get dirt and stuff trapped underneath if using for a long period of time, but do you think itll be fine for just a couple of hours each weekend? i assume theyre not too hard to take on and off. i looked at the clear bra option, but i just dont want to spend that much money for protection twice a month.

What are you talking about twice a month for a clear bra? You apply it once and it's good long time :-?

yea but a clear bra is 300-400 bucks, and i dont want to spend that much money

i think what he means is for protection he only needs twice a month he doesnt believe that $400 is worth it.....now to be honest to me 400 is a lot of money but then again its how much you value your front bumper and hood and how bad you think it will get without the bra. As far as the vinyl bra i dont no much about them except for the fact that the outsite paint will look darker than whats under the bra depending on how long you leave it on.....so if you can easily take it off and on which i dont know i think that would be the best route.....just my .02

i know those things are tough to get on and off in the winter when they freeze up- they have to be pretty warm and flexible to get them on from what I remember, but Ive never actually had one, so I may be wrong. For 50 bucks, its worth a shot!

Three words on removable car bras = Don't Do It!

The professionally installed clear bras are different... and if I ever get my ride repainted, I'll be looking into it most likely.

CLEAR BRA FTW....

I had my xB clear bra'd 2 days after i got it and its been really good to me since my front end is ROCK CHIP FREE!!!

plus its barely visable...
I spent a little more then $400.00.. more like $560.00 but i got everything covered from front bumper... hood... fenders.. door handles... mirrors.. and also my rear bumper where the cargo can fall and hit the bumper...

I have a bra on my solara (at times). there is age old myth among people who have never used one to say "they scratch your car, they discolor your car, dirt is caught in the middle". Yes i'm not talking look, but function. And its not like I have it 24/7. When we did our 1800 mile commute to wisconsin, the bra was a easy swipe for the number of bugs that were caught!
Just as long as your keep the underside of the bra clean, and clay/wax/polish the underside the funtionality works! (not the looks). And FYI: it costs close to 120-150 at the dealerships (for toyota one's).
edit: oops forgot to mention, the clear bra's are what i would use too, but in 02 when i bought the car, they were going for close to upwards of 700 installed. And also your front valances are NOT accomodated with the bra!!

yea i agree. i know they dont look great but im not goin to be driving around with it on all the time, its just for a few hours twice a month, to save me from when ill be MOST likely to get a rock chip. ive come to the realization that im probably going to get a new car in 3-4 years, so why invest so much money into this one? i want to keep it running well and looking good, but im not gonna blow big bucks on something like a clear bra

don't get coglen (or something like that) or even le-bra....those are the bra's that hurt your car. Get a toyota oem one...I've had one on my es and its got flawless front end for being its age....its only 120-150...just ask someone who's got links to dealerships.
