Gen 1.5 grill prototype

Gen 1.5 grill prototype

Postby xavier » Fri Jun 15, 2007 3:12 pm

I have the new stock grill and already started hacking away at it already. What I am going to try to do is send the prototype off for a mold from Kaminari. I am currently working with their design dept to work the details out. What I need to know is how many folks would be interested in a gen 1.5 grill in abs plastic or urethane. Im leaning on abs plastic as it is far easier to get a grill with all the tabs with abs over urethane but Im open for suggestions.

Also, this will be a one design grill so if anyone wants anything special on the grill, let me know and we can all decide on the final design. Im going to put some pictures of the stock grill that I have taken the blade too to give you some of the ideas I have thought of.

I am really looking to guage how many folks would want an aftermarket grill for under $200 to see if its worth me having a mold made.

Here are the pictures:

I was thinking of making small housings to fit small led/ahlogen lights for small driving lights but not sure if everyone would be on board with that.

if you want a grille try and get a renova grille. it fits the gen1 and looks damn good.

Yeah, the only reason Im doing a gen 1.5 is because Renova said there was no market for the gen 1.5. Where others see "no-market" I see "opportunity"!

As far as the design of the grill is concerned, I am thinking this design would be best suited:

For some reason this one that Mark has looks so much cleaner.

Xavier, is there a way you can get it less bulky looking?

I just started the hack job. I havent even started the fiberglass yet. When its done, it'll look very similiar to that. I know there is a "small" market its still a market and I'll make them by hand if needed.

I like it. But it gets rid of the Toyota badge. That's ok though. I'd sign up for one if it looks anything like that one.

Well, I was thinking of molding two led housings in the bottom of the grill that meets with the bumper. They would be centered on each diagonal bottom peice.
