Blow off valve.

Blow off valve.

I go crazy whenever I hear a blow off sound from a WRX. amazing sound, turns me on in a minute.
do you know if there any way to get a blow off valve without a turbocharged car? I'm not really willing to pay $2k for a bow sound.

if youre not willing to pay the money then no.....
im not sure if the noise youre hearing is even a bov....someone correct me if im wrong but isnt a bov an aftermarket part?

my suggestion is, if you want to pretend to be fast, go buy a universal muffler 10" in diameter and a sticker that says "fast and furious" or "toyota power". and you cant forget the altezza tails....

It is a Blowoff valve that makes that sound and i personally dont consider a turbo with a blow off valve "ricey"... just ask most people with a TT supra with a BOV... ricey??? i think not

BOV crack

Postby ProRally Codriver » Sat Jun 16, 2007 10:15 pm

I have BOV. Its addicting. Driving is more fun. Its a symphony of turbo sounds with modded turbo cars. Wastegate 'chirping', BOV 'psshing', atmosheric wastegate dump screaming unmuffled exhaust 'roar' at max boost and anti-lag programming allowing fuel to burn in exhaust manifold to keep turbo spooled up creating 'pop, pop, pop'. Who needs a stereo?

You don't get it buddy.
it's ricey if you want a "Bov" if you don't even GOT a turbo.
But hey, to each their own.

^^See? Even j3ff knows it and he asks a lot of common knowledge questions  !
Kidding, Jeff.

Seriously though; go out and actually get a turbo... Adding BOV speakers just makes you look like you're using your foot to add power a la The Flintstones, or those guys with a slushbox who moves their hands in tune to gear changing as if they're driving stick, but the dead giveaway being that there's no pause in between shifts... Just like if you were to put those on, still have people smoke you and maybe even sound a bit distorted/tinny through speakers.

I have a blow off valve, and I love it! Mine is recirculating, not atmospheric venting, so it's more muffled and sounds more like a PTSSSSSHHH than Jeff's WUUKKKTSHHHHHHHH!!!!! but it's PHAT yo!

Of course, then again... it's on my turbo Supra...

PS--> SolaraBlue, a BOV is not necessarily an aftermarket part. Some turbo/supercharged vehicles rely solely on a wastegate, but most (mid-80s and beyond) charged vehicles also come with recirculating blow-off valves (also known as dump, diverter, pop-off, bypass or anti-surge valves). Atmospheric venting BOVs are generally after-market, and are actually illegal for street use in several states. While the waste gate alleviates built-up pressure by allowing exhaust gasses to bypass the turbo side (and thus preventing the turbo from blowing itself up from continuously building pressure with no release), the blow-off valve dumps excess air from the intake side in order to alleviate harmful back-pressure from the compressor (known as "compressor surge", or sometimes incorrectly referred to as "wastegate chatter"). So it serves a very serious and practical purpose in the turbo system schematic.

Dude, follow-up... I just had a GREAT idea! You can slit a couple vacuum hoses and have a perminant "TSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" wherever you go!!
