got a turbo!!!

Postby NRDriver » Sun Jun 24, 2007 10:05 pm

i know i posted my car for sale but i couldnt sell it. My shop, Pacific Northwest transmissions has a 950HP dart at the dragstrip and we are currently building a caprice with a corvette engine (old cop car) to race. with all this going on i decided i need to step up with my car. so my boss gave me a turbo and we are gonna do it all our selves. i figure this will produce more HP than a supercharger and if i do it myself it will be cheaper. i took a close look at this setup and it looks like it wont be too hard. IM STOKED!

Remember you got stock internals and it won't take much for them to go BOOM!!!

Good luck! Beef up your internals so you can you some kind of reasonable boost - not a pathetic amount like us s/c'd folks...

I'm trying to learn ALL the basics around turbo setup, you have such a luck of opportunity to do what I dream about...do my own turbo setup (working :P )

Good success with your "too cool" project !!

Yes it is not that hard to piece together a turbo kit. No it is not going to be very worthwhile unless you build your internals. TRD SC or internal build. I'd say if you're going for it do the damn thing at once, if not get a supercharger until you're ready to. Really not worth it without the built bottom end IMO.

There is a lot more needed than just the turbo and I'd build from scratch to do internals cause you might as well at least upgrade the head gaskets before boosting. Boost is like crack and it won't be long before 5lbs ain't enough and you'll be wanting more. 5 lbs isn't worth the trouble. I run 20lbs in my streetcar.

Put on your shopping list:
Intercooler
Wastegate
BOV
Boost controller
Boost gauge
Larger injectors
Upgraded fuel pump
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Fual pressure gauge
Colder plugs
AFC piggyback
Low profile radiator fan
Plumbing for oil line into oil pan

Good idea to have:
Alum radiator

internals

Postby NRDriver » Wed Jun 27, 2007 6:18 pm

^^^ HA HA!!! So true. LIKE CRACK! :changes:

(I don't know exactly what that is like... but I'm assuming it's ADDICTIVE as HELL! 8) )

...oh yeah... I TRY to keep it at about 15lbs... good, but I'd do MORE if I could get my HANDS ON IT! (safely? ...you know... like doing CRACK SAFELY! 8) )
