it works and will tell you if there are problems with your car

but for actual tuning, you'll need a wideband

sorry to threadjack but how will that tell you if there are probs?
i have the narrow brand and all it does is sweep.. sometimes itll stay on either lean or rich but that's only when I just start the car and that lasts just for a few seconds or so... before starting the sweeping motion (when air is gettin sucked in or when my foot is on the gas)
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

I think you may not be reading english correctly these days, i said to you that if i need to tune, i go to the DYNO and have them tune it for me with their equipment (their wideband and wat not), i wanted to use a gauge for daily driving and to use it as a precaution for any early symptoms.

U say its for show, im asking is it okay to depend on for early symptoms

I said nothing about Tuneing.

What does it hook up to? does it have a sensor somewhere or does it just piggyback to the ECU?

I would think that your CEL system would be a decent warning for running too lean and blowing stuff up, unless you have screwed with it.

I am going to have to back Dat up on this. The narrow band A/F Gauge does NOTHING!!! Even to use it as a precuation.. IT DOES NOT show accurate information since all it does is bounce around. Its for SHOW purposes. If its not reading correctly its not going to sell you anything.

I had one in the solara before and it was far from accurate. If you want a A/F gauge I would fork out the money and buy the Wide Band. Even if its not for tuning its more accurate to read and you will be able to tell if you are having problems.

well, coming from a guy who has both had a narrowband gauge and now has a wideband gauge....

it does work by giving you an idea.

It WILL tell you if you are running rich, and it WILL tell you when you are running lean.

When people say that it does nothing because it continuously sweeps, it's doing that because there is NOTHING WRONG.

Unless you have had things go wrong with your car- i.e. install new REAL performance parts yourself, etc. it will only ever sweep and be useless for tuning.

I have had mine show all green....much too often. So I got a wideband....and guess what- I was running an AFR of 10.

I've had mine show nothing at all....guess what...then I popped a code for a lean front bank. My car was running so lean that it was out of range.

So unless somebody here has owned both a narrowband and a wideband, you have no idea what you're talking about.

All wideband owners always say that narrowbands are useless since they have the "real" thing. But since I've had both and now have a wideband, I still don't knock the narrowband for doing what it's designed for, which is different from a wideband.
