Any Split Second (URD) product tuners in California?

Postby Ian » Sun Jul 08, 2007 11:54 am

O.K., I have run into a wall trying to find a performance tuner shop to install my FTC-1 and AFR calibrator that I bought from URD. I had a shop lined up, but they punked out. I had URD check and they might have a hook up in Garden Grove, but they have yet to reveal who it is and that was over a month ago. So, now I'm back to square 1.

I would prefer a shop in southern california, but at this point I would be willing to drive to northern california just to get this done or even Arizona. I don't want to blow my engine by driving without a proper tune.

If anybody has a connection to a good tuner shop that is familiar with URD/Split Second products in the state of California, please let me know.

Thanks

Dyno'd my car today; max at the wheel figures were: 264hp and 267 lb. torque.

We ran into some trouble because the ECU was not reading boost below 3,500rpm. Basically my supercharger has not been boosting below 3,500 rpm, or my ECU has not been reading boost below 3,500rpm, and I'm not sure why.

He bypass'd the supercharger bypass valve, and the ECU read boost below 3,500rpm and showed 40lb torque increase. So, he recommended that I tap the supercharger and put a vacuum hose on it so that the ECU can read boost from the supercharger. We changed it back because he said if I keep the bypass of the s/c bypass on that it would wear out the supercharger which would be boosting all the time. Has anybody else had a similar problem as far as their TRD s/c not boosting at low rpm's? (My car is manual, not an automatic.)

Also, the stock injectors started to lean out above 6,000 rpm in 5th gear. He recommended larger injectors if I want to drive it at all rpms. So, the URD 305cc injectors should be the solution. Now that I think about it, I think I still have a set of supra injectors that I never used. I hope they're still good.

All in all i'm pleased with the results, which seem to be similar to those with 6lbs of boost. I would like to resolve the mystery of no boost at low rpms and I'm considering putting in the larger injectors.

I'd definitely recommend Church tuning as well.

The s\c is configured, or when its hooked up correctly to TRD spec, it boosts on engine load...right around 3K or so, thats when the actuator closes the wastegate and the car gets the boost instead of venting it.

Its like that for a reason, do not change it.

u got 264whp on 6psi?

Can you please list the mods u have on ur car?

i did 174whp on 2.5psi on a auto tranny, after the tune with SAFCII.

I recall that, but I thought it applied more to automatics. I'll have to research this and figure it out.

TRD s/c
6lb pulley
URD lightweight crank pulley
Denso iridium IK22 plugs
magnacor wires
cold air intake
URD fuel pump
Jim's fuel kit
TRD springs and struts and RSB
Jim's torque rod
URD (split second) FTC-1 and AFR calibrator
ProRacing bored throttle body

I think that's it, but I don't remember anything else. My car is manual too. I wish I had the JPP exhaust system. I'm sure that would make a great difference. Oh well.

the situation is true for manual as well.

hey i have a question, that lightweight crank pulley, what did the installer have to do to put it on? was it hard to install? is it worth it?

remove the belt, unscrew the pulley bolt, replace with the new pully and screw it on and put the belt back on.

it was noticable at first. Not a big difference, but noticable. Like most minor mods, you get used to it quickly. But, with minor mods, it's the accumluation of minor mods that help. If you didn't get it, it wouldn't be a big deal. I don't think they make them anymore, but you have to check.

VERY nice numbers. I made 260whp on 5.5 psi but I wish I had a chance to throw the 6psi on. I also wish I had a URD setup as well. The SAFC didnt do much for me.

The TRD S/C figures are below. I have a hard time believing that at 6 psi I'm running 330hp. I got this by figuring there is a 20% power loss with manual transmissions. So, 264 wheel hp is 80% of 330 flywheel hp.

Boost - 10.00 HP* - 343 Torque* - 373

Boost - 9.00 HP* - 332 Torque* - 362

Boost - 8.00 HP* - 320 Torque* - 350

Boost - 7.00 HP* - 310 Torque* - 339

Boost - 6.00 HP* - 298 Torque* - 316

*all figures represent at flywheel

yeah....the trd figures are skewed....there is no way that stock 4psi adds 75hp...I remember looking at that page back in the day and saying wow....but after doing it...it's not for real.

at 6psi, it should be about 300bhp, or the 260whp that everybody reports through a 5 speed.

and the 5speed is closer to 10-12% parasitic loss whereas the auto is 20+%

Hmm, well then the TRD figures are correct because factoring in a 12% loss, at 6lb's I got 264 wheel horsepower which is 300 flywheel hp (300/88% = 264). TRD's chart shows that 6lbs gives 298 flywheel hp.

I think I have reached my goal of running a safe 300hp. :D
